fuel economy

We just completed a 500 mile trip at 75 MPH, 4 people, two dogs, plus gear. So figure about 600lbs of people and gear. 17.59 MPG calculated by hand. By myself going 80 MPH on the reverse route of this same trip I got 18.3. 420 HP engine pushing a 5400lb vehicle...that seems about right. Also I run 87 octane.

I'm on average of 17ish through all my mixed driving. I can't complain though I take my dog every day to the park that is a mile away. I haven't driven a long stretch of highway again since putting on the factory 22's, but I feel like these things affected my mileage a bit. I'm on 3.92's and a 33 gallon tank.

My latest tank was 16.0 mpg hand calculated using premium fuel which matched what the truck showed too.

I’m at just over 13 mpg hand. Calculated. Running premium fuel 93 octane. Run the same route every day. About a 30 mile loop. No start and stop driving average mph is 45-50 no heavy foot easy driving in auto mode. My 5.7 hemi. On the same route with all the same habits. Was getting 16 plus hand calculated I’m at 1900 miles now Not has been consistently awful Truck seems to run ok

So, I found on mine... and one other user confirmed their as well.. it doesn't matter if you are in 4wd or 2wd.. the offroad pages shows that the transfer case is locked... I put a camera under my truck and tested.. sure enough it is turning everything out to the hubs no matter the mode. This would certainly affect MPG! I called ram as my dealer just told me they didn't know... and RAM said yes, that is not working properly and I should take it in... but if it's all of them it's larger than what the dealer will be able to fix on a visit.

Mine shows locked too no matter 2WD or 4WD. With the truck parked in 2WD I can spin the front drive shaft by hand so the transfer case is not locked.

That's interesting.. I used a camera and drove back/forward.. front drive shaft turns no matter the mode.. it should not turn when in 2wd

Try to spin the front driveshaft by hand when it's parked. My 2024 Wrangler Rubicon when parked in 2WD I cannot spin the front driveshaft by hand but I can for the Rebel.

That’s what I get on my 25 rebel 16 and sometimes a little over. The sticker mileage rating is bs. If I had known this I never would have bought it. I would have bought a Chevy.

Those stickers are based on trucks with street tires and 3.55 gears. Rebels have skid plates, 33" A/T tires and 3.92 gears with 5,200 miles my overall mileage is 17.5 with premium fuel.

did you ever take your truck in? have you found anything else out?

That’s false advertising then. If Rebels have a lower mpg than other models then that should have been stated on their sticker price. I bought this truck thinking that it was going to get around 24 mpg. Very disappointing.

I don't think the sticker MPG is honest. I had an e-torque 5.7 Limited. It said 20 in town, 25 highway, 22 average, 2WD, 3.21. I was lucky to average 16. I had a 3.92 before that that was about the same. I had a 2009 and a 2014 5.7, non e-torque, both were better. My 2wd 2025 SO gets about 22-23 highway, 16-17 average around town. I did experiment for a few tanks with premium, and it was a little better. I'm going to do some longer term experiments with fuel. This truck says 22 average also, and there is no way it will get that, even driven very gently. No way. They are not accurate.

I double-checked mine in all modes and saw the same thing. It always spins the front drive shaft. Hopefully, it can be fixed and is part of the reason for my 14 MPG. I am going to talk to my local service manager tomorrow. Other than the locked transfer case, my truck runs great, and the traction is always awesome on loose ground!

My truck showed locked transfer case all the time. last week I had it in for cold start running issues. they did a flash, that should not have changed anything on the center consol, but now mine does not show locked unless in 4WD, it showed locked all the time prior.

Mine shows locked all the time too and I can spin the front drive shaft by hand when it's parked in 2wd. Would you post what they flashed?

was the TSB for cold start issues. could be coincidence, they confirmed my center console was already current. I have no explanation why the transfer case lock works all of sudden.

I checked the traction on a hill covered in wet leaves. The rear tires spin in 2WD and not in 4WD Auto. That means the front hubs are not locked in 2WD even though the transfer case is always locked. I have a service appointment next Friday for them to take a look. If the locked transfer case is fixable, I expect a small bump in MPG, but I don’t expect it to go from 14 to 19.

I have a 2025 ram rebel sso. my fuel economy is garbage I have around 1500 miles now and I'm only getting 10-13 mpg mixed with a max maybe 14 highway. towing I got 9 mpg on the highway at around 70 mph with an empty aluminum trailer weighing 1100 lbs I'm not hard on my truck this is all easy light foot driving. is this par for the coarse or could there be something wrong
I've had my Rebel Hurricane with the 32-33 tires and the 3.92 for about a month now.
Alike my F150 is had, I need to stay at about 70MPH to get 20MPG.
I just drove from Phoenix to Yuma and back, some being stop and go in the cities, and got almost 20 MPH.
I had to try to keep it closer to 70MPH on the 75MPH limit interstates.

I'm getting 15 to 17 in thy city. Depending on how many times I goose the throttle from a might every now and then.
2000 miles on it within the first month of ownership.
Bit that's three out of town trips.
