Any information on this? My truck just did the same thing. Same code. Used a battery box to start the truck, had a check engine light, plus my security light was on steady.

Just got this code today. Battery dead! Took awhile to charge even before it would click over. My screen is completely black, backup camera is inoperable (very dangerous and should warrant a lawsuit FCA if someone were to get hurt) usb ports don't light, dic display only shows speed limit (no time, direction, temp etc ) Drive around town 3 times and still having refreshed. I guess I'll have to wait until morning for the damn system to reset. This is ridiculous that we have to go through this process every time the battery dies or negative cable is removed. Do any other vehicles/brands have this type of issue?

Same thing happened to me this morning, the battery was dead, all cameras and sensors didn't want to work and when i took the truck to auto zone it appears the same code P1DF3. RAM need to do a national Recall to fix this issue some how this malfunction is killing the battery's. This is a safety matter and someone can get into a accident

I went to start my 2019 Ram 1500 today, no go... Checked the fuses all okay.. Battery was at 75% so I charged it for 30 minutes. The truck started but a little slowly, the amber engine lite was on... never seen that before. My young neighbor kid came over plugged in his little blue OBD scanner and said I have a code P1DF3 code.. I am afraid to drive it very far, the dealer says it will be a week before they can get to it... Not a happy camper....

I am deeply sorry for the trouble, @Stdavis1953. We would like to escalate your situation to a Case Manager which will provide the dealership and yourself with an individual who will review your concern, then assist you and the dealership in exhausting all available resources to have the concern addressed and resolved.

Our team is always a private message away to begin this process.

I've disconnected my negative terminal several times and have never had to wait for any kind of reset. It's been ready to drive immediately after reconnecting the battery cable every time. Haven't experienced the dead battery or P1DF3 issue so I can't speak to that.

It's not necessarily a problem with coming back after removing the battery cable, it's the car's network coming up and either not finding a module or finding a module hasn't been initialized properly. P1DF3 is typically "ECU not initialized" - so one of the modules is either dead or it hasn't been initialized properly. For the folks who had a module drain the battery (not something they did) and resetting didn't fix the issue, there's probably just a faulty module on the vehicle bus (or bad wiring, etc.) and it's draining the battery/ keeping things from coming up properly. If *they* drained the battery, they probably just need to pull ground and then give everything time to come back up - they should probably have the truck on a trickle charger, too. I'm also curious if any of these folks just had an aftermarket tune...

In either case, official complaints to the NHSTA are unlikely to help - there's a module screwed up and a check engine light showing you things are screwed up. If FCA had to make a fix, it would probably be to keep your vehicle from driving in that situation, so ask yourself which is better - a truck with a CEL that you can drive to the dealer, or one that has to get towed.

ECU Not Initialized is what the code means. The purpose of the diagnostic is to monitor the time period of the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) initialization state. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) receives the status of the initialization state from the ESM on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus while evaluating a counter in the TCM to determine if the initialization time is excessive.

Either the TCM is defective or the ESM is defective or the clowns who wrote the diagnostic routines screwed up. Either a bad batch of ESM or TCM modules or a coding defect and my bet would be on the latter. To save money the senior software engineers are often forced out and the young people doing the coding lack the experience and expertise to write solid code.

By the way this is a widespread problem and it is not limited to Ram trucks but also affects Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Jeep vehicles.

Mine happened today with the same code. Replaced the battery, and same code appears. Your problem, fix?

You're unable to look through the windows assuring that your not backing over anyone? How did we drive before backup cameras?

What was the fix for the code?

I've had the same issue. I had noticed two weak starts before this happened . Then one afternoon i tried to start my truck and it was dead I tried to jump it but it didn't even crank I was hearing a loud pop noise in the cabin I had thought I blew something, I had to stop trying because it started raining . So I looked up in this group for clues and I did jump it this time let it charge for a little while then it started no problem, however a check engine light was on, I went to advance to look up the code and check the battery , they said battery was ok maybe 6 more months and the code was p1df3 . After that I went home and the next morning the check engine light was gone . Couple of days later same issue it was dead but this time it took no time to jump it . I called the dealership to find out if it was safe to drive it like that they said that code was not on the system . So I went ahead and replaced the battery . Once that happened the surround camera was gone and other settings but it came a while after . Since I replaced the battery I haven't had issues and it has been a week . No check engine light either.

Did you ever fix that problem?
