Engine Light? Code P1DF3

Just got hit with this unfortunate code today. Happened 7 days ago and put a new battery in. Ran fine for 4 days and hasn't started since. Currently waiting for a tow to the dealership...

Got hit yesterday, 2019 5.7 Laramie, 50k miles, stock. Drove 115 miles out of town. Parked to get gas. Went to start up and nothing. Got a jump that took considerably long. Immediately drove to AutoZone, 1 min drive away, who checked the battery. 91% charge, but battery came up bad per AZ charging tool. Died again on the subsequent restart. Bought and installed a new battery in the AZ parking lot. Had them check the CEL/power train light. Got this code and an ABS system error, no code. With the new battery, truck started right up. Drove another 115 miles before stopping. No issues. I'll report back any changes. Hopefully just a bad battery.

Hi all, same thing here. Reading the posts it seems only fix is to replace the battery and hope the code clears.
If the code does not clear after a battery change, what is the next step?
I just changed my battery, started right up no issues but still have the same CEL P1DF3.
I have an appointment with the dealership next week but my car is just outside the warranty by 3 weeks of course.

Side note I also have the CHMSL leak issue, found mold on the carpet. There was a letter sent by RAM so make sure everyone checks you don't have wet headliner/carpets.
My 3rd brake light bulbs went out and I think it was due to this leak also. Yikes!

Am wondering if folks encountered this problem immedialty after getting the accelerator recall done? I had my done a few days ago and now having same issue

I replaced battery yesterday and did a reset of the ECU with OBD JScan and haven’t had the code come back. Granted only been a day.

Same thing for me as so many have stated. Cold 🥶 weather dead battery and engine code yay!

My 2019 Ram Laramie is having the same issues. Twice yesterday I had to jump start my truck. First time Truck drove normally, second time after jump, my transmission didn't shift properly. O reilly tested battery as "good" and scanned at got this P1DF# ECU not initialized. I intend to measure my battery this morning and call around tomorrow to get this looked at. I will update once my dealer looks at this. I am having similar symptoms that are on this thread. I have 83300 miles and no warranty.

Did they test the battery in the truck and connected, or out of the truck on the cart?

Did you follow jumping procedure properly? If you hooked up cables to battery, instead of the proper way, explained in the manual, you could have fried a module. They also have to test the battery properly. Many people said their battery tested good, to find out later it was bad.

Hooking jumper cables up battery post to battery post isn't going to fry any modules.

But it doesn't say it will fry modules.
No, it doesn't. But it doesn't say what it will do either. However, it does say don't do it. It MAY be that it fries modules. Computers are very sensitive to electric current.

Never ever disconnect your battery under any circumstance then.

Same issue here with the code. Only difference is that the CEL isn’t on. The bad thing is that my 2019 Ram 1500 won’t pass inspection. Had to replace the battery a few weeks ago and that caused it to fail the inspection. So drove it off and on and slowly codes started to resolve… but this last one is sticking on.

The battery was replaced because it was OLD. Apparently the dealership sold me a 2019 truck with a 2017 battery. Clay Cooley dealership con artists at work.

So taking it in to flash the software is the only way to get this code to vanish? I just want my truck up to date so I don’t fear getting a ticket.

I've had this happen twice now in the last month. Literally zero issues with the truck since I bought it new in 2019. Seems like there is no way to resolve this issue other than selling the truck and getting something more reliable?

New member, same problem. Started with rough start a few days ago, transitioned to not starting after sitting in garage over weekend not being used (allows time for battery to drain). Check engine light came on after jump starting vehicle with typical symptoms of drained battery. Checked OBD scanner and got P1DF3 so going to get checked out at dealership in several days once they're available to look at it. I will update. Oreilly Auto checked battery and said it looked fairly nominal especially for a 5 year old OEM battery.

2019 Ram 1500 Laramie, 5.7L Hemi; 73,000 miles

UPDATE 7/18/23: Went to dealership and asked them if they could evaluate the P1DF3 issue and referenced the service bulletin that is covered for certain model VIN, mine not included. After an hour and half gave truck back saying they flashed the software per the service bulletin and said the battery charge was low and also recommended replacement. I was charged $189.95 for the software update that is fully covered if under warranty (<60,000 miles/5 years, which I meet the 5 years but not the mileage) or for the specified VINs in the service bulletin. NOTE: I was never informed of the cost at any point in time and simply told before giving me keys the total bill. So basically they released software that was incorrect with the vehicle and then make customer pay $189.95 to update the software that they didn't have correct from the factory just because it is past the warrantied mileage. Needless to say not very happy with that scenario. Will update in future if problem returns. For now I have bought battery to have on hand, but not replacing to see if issue is resolved and not just mask it with a new battery.
So I just had this same issue with my 2019 LoneStar.
KevinMiller55 1st off did you authorize any diagnosis time and did they quote you on that?
Most shops ask for 1/2 to 1 hour diagnosis time on electronic issues and that’s about normal.
Being that you supplied the service bulletin for them ( which you said didn’t apply for your vin # ) this is what I wood ( I am a former service manager for Toyota and BMW and Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler and Parts and Service manager for Saturn )
If you did authorize diagnosis time you are obligated to pay that as per your signature on the repair order.
Anything ABOVE the price you authorized is on them unless they came to you and you approved further diagnostic time or the software update.
Do not EVER pay for anything you did not authorize in person or by phone.
Dealerships ( the ****ty ones ) will go ahead and do software updates and at times replace parts and charge labor without your knowledge, consent or authorization.
If they do not have a record of a phone call to you ( Date, time and who they spoke to and what was authorized noted ON the repair order or your Signature if you are present at the dealership you are NOT required to pay any additional repairs and you can refuse to pay it and ask to speak to the General Manager of the dealership or the owner.
You can even involve law enforcement if they get ****ty with you and you also have the option to sue them and in the state of New York you can contact the State DMV inspector office and file a complaint with them and depending on the circumstances and if this dealership has a history of dealing dishonesty with customers this office can pull their State inspection license and repair license and close them down.
Again, do not ever pay for ANYTHING you did not previously authorize for anything.
Now back to my issue, my truck was parked overnight with the keys in it and unlocked.
I got in it this evening and it was dead.
I jumped it with my boost pack and immediately check engine light came on for P1DF3 code which my scanner has no information on.
I am currently researching it and came to this forum to see what has been said and done about it.
I pulled the code and it was in history 2 times ( truck didn’t start on 1st attempt ) with no other codes.
Alternator is putting out 14.4 volts and battery is now back over 12 volts after driving it approximately 20 miles to ven with lights and a/c and radio on.
I just attempted to clear the code 3 times in succession with the truck off and code came back each time.
I then started it again and check engine light is out but code still present in history.
