Over the past week or two, when I start the truck in the mornings there is a repetitive noise coming from under the hood. The best way I can describe it is this: you know the sound your windshield washer fluid pump makes when you activate it? That whirrrr noise? Well, that's what this sounds like. Except it's off and on and off and on repetitively. Sometimes I'm even hearing it while stopped at a red light.

Any ideas on what that could be? I checked and all fluid levels seem to be good.

Grill shutters are a possibility. Shut your truck off and quickly go to the front and listen. If it's the same noise, watch the grill shutters. Mine open up within a few seconds of shutting the truck off.

Possibly. I think when this ice storm is over I'll park the truck outside so I can start it and immediately pop the hood one morning and see if I can more closely pinpoint the location of the sound.

Maybe you inadvertently purchased an E-Torque engine and are just noticing it? ;)

You mentioned ice. Is it possible that the shutters are being blocked by some Ice and they are trying to close or open and hitting resistance and resetting? Just a thought.

Hi @WXman, we understand how noises like this can be concerning. If at any point you decide to address this with your Ram dealer, our team is just a private message away and more than willing to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist for further support through that process.
