This is the 2nd time it's happened. I got out of the truck and pressed the button on the driver's side door handle and nothing happened. Pressed it again, nothing. Got out the key fob, locked the doors using the fob. No problem. Unlocked the door from the fob, no problem. Pressed the button on the door handle and it finally locked. But not until I locked and unlocked it from the fob. Again, this is the 2nd time it's happened. Anyone else experience this?

I’ve only experienced this when I’ve had static discharge (go to push the button and ZAP). The truck doesn’t lock on the first button press when that happens (but it does on the second). This has happened enough times that I’ve learned to touch the door or handle sheet metal before pushing the button!

Take it to your dealer -- just saw one do the same yesterday and the crew asked if that was natural (normal operations) or not .. it is not. I have always locked from the inside while getting out (force of habit from my other job) with the fob in my pocket. Rarely do I push the button on the handle - but do from time to time if I am unloading something from the rear seat area.

Your dealer can run the wiTECH software and see if it is a bad sensor / solenoid / etc. Pretty cool feature ..

Hi rrbhokies,

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this concern with your truck. I recommend connecting with your local certified FCA dealer, as they are in the best position to assist. Please know that our team is available via private message should you require any additional assistance during that process.

I've seen people reporting issues for not being able to unlock their doors and a lot of the time it is caused by having their cell phone and FOB in the same pocket whereby the phone is interfering with the operation. It may also be true for locking it, but I can't be certain. Either way this is just something to consider next time you have this problem. See if your phone/FOB are close together, like in the same pocket, and then separate them and try again.

Page 19 of owner's manual:
NOTE: The key fob may not be found if it is located next to a mobile phone, laptop or other electronic device; these devices may block the key fob’s wireless signal.

Mine did the same exact thing this morning. Did you get it fixed or was it a one time occourance?

We certainly understand why this would be concerning, deanfx. If you decide to address this with your dealer and you would like an additional layer of assistance for that process, our team would be happy to help. We are just a private message away.

It only happens to me when I either leave the key in the truck or when I unlocked using the key fob.

If I unlocked using my fingers behind the handle, I never had an issue locking with the button. But on those rare occasions when I use the key fob to unlock it, I remember a couple of times when I couldn't lock it using the door handle button.

Happens to me anytime the FOB is near or covered by a cell phone. Did the same thing on my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Went with 5.11 pants and shorts that have cell phone pockets closer to your rear hips, problem totally solved. :)

This makes sense. I had my phone and fob in the same hand when I was trying to lock it with the door buttons. Good lort

In my experience if I shut the door and press the button immediately the truck doesn't lock. (There's a clicking sound and the lights flash, I think, but the button stays up and the truck remains unlocked.) If I wait for about a second before pressing the button it locks. My interpretation is that it takes a moment for the truck to register that that the key is outside.

Reviving an old thread but I have this very same issue (frequently). I sometimes will have to open/close the door again a couple of times before the handle will lock the doors.

I realized that leaving my fob on the dash prevents the doors from locking...easy fix, take fob with me.

Trying to lock too soon or to late send to be another issue. I feel like there is a small window to actually lock the doors with the handle. I thought I was doing something wrong, that's why I searched this topic but it sounds like I should have it looked at.

1 year anniversary of ownership is a week away.
