Noticed when letting off the gas on a flat stretch (like a highway exit) and especially going on a slight downhill without any throttle there is what feels like excessive drag and the truck just doesn’t roll. I have the 5.7L w/ ETorque. Would there be anything creating that drag effect related to the etorque? Seems counterproductive to not let it roll.

I thought eTorque trucks had regenerative braking, which would definitely feel like dragging something.

When you get a chance, fill out your signature.
Do you have the Off Road package on your truck?

Yes, the articles I have read on it the eTorque is likely the cause, feels same in our truck as well. The motor/generator will use these decel times to charge the 48v battery behind the rear seat.

If you want to coast, you actually need a tiny bit of accelerator in etorque to disengage regenerative braking without fueling the cylinders (or put it in neutral). Treat it like single pedal driving, only using the wheel brakes sparingly, and you will get better mileage overall.

@Lakewake I know this is an old thread, but I am noting a similar issue where I "coast" and it feels like engine braking or downshifting that slows me down without braking. I don't have etorque but I do have the Off-road package. I came across this thread and wondered if there was a specific reason you asked about the off-road option. Would that cause a similar issue? Thanks!

Hi @haRAMbe - If you are not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you decide to address this with your Ram dealer, please do not hesitate to follow up with us via private message. We would be more than happy to get you set up with a specialist for an additional layer of support for the dealer process.

Yes the e-torque places a slight drag during regen. I feel it most at 25 and under while braking.

Probably not the case here, but you never know...On a previous car, I had a brake service performed. The tech used a threaded bolt on one of the slide pins on the brakes causing the brake to be slightly engaged ALL THE TIME. I noticed a drag and waited a few days to see if it would correct itself. I also saw about a 20% drop in MPG due to the drag. I'm not too mechanically inclined so the items I referred to were told to me by a mechanic friend who fixed it for me. Just a thought...

Is it all attributed to eTorque and not at all to the ZF 8HP75? The ZF 8HP45 on my 335i downshifts when I'm slowing down to a stop and it feels pretty substantial.

Now my reply seems REALLY old! Did you get to the bottom of this or decide it is normal? I have the ORP too and noticed from day one it didn't like to coast well at all. Drove a 2018 Ram 1500 this last week and the thing will coast for days!! Could be the different transmission I suppose like another poster mentioned. What do you think?

He hasn't been on this forum in two years.

Transmissions are the same as the 2018. It’s the etorque

Could be different tcm programming as well.

As it does reduce break wear.
