Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with their truck downshifting at highway speeds? A simple overpass the truck drops a gear. It seems like the truck does not have the power it should.
It has been in five times for just this. Dealer does software update but still no fix.
Also at low speeds right turns, or backing up with the wheel turned to the right. What sounds like a rubbing sound front left. Dealer says TSB for that too. the transfer case But the sound does not go away.

Same here. Won’t hold 8th like what I think final gear should do leading to lower normal MPGs. Have 3:21 gears and seen other threads stating that’s the difference between 3:21 and 3:92. Also have eTorque Hemi and I’m wondering if that has something to do with this. Do non-eTorques experience same. Can say what you want about Ford 10 speed AT, but I came out of and never experience this amount of downshifting. Once got to top speed and high gear it sailed without constant downshifting. Still love my 2020 Ram for interior styling and smooth ride, but constant downshifting is a pain...No utopia in life, trade offs 🤷🏽‍♂️

It's usually in the gear ratio from what I understand. A 3.92 won't shift as often as a 3.21. As far as the rubbing sound is concerned...if it's the transfer case...wouldn't it make the noise constantly whether your turning or not..?

I sent them a certified letter to get it fixed. To start the lemon law procedure. I want them to buy it back or replace it.

One would think so. It's a low-speed issue under 10 miles an hour.
The first dealer didn't know what to do. The second dealer said it was the transfer case that they had a tsb to fix it but it didn't fix it.
theses trucks cost too much money to have to deal with imperfections they don't want to fix.

I have a 2019 and I’d say the same thing these trucks have no power to hold high gear and down shift if there is a slight head wind I pull my side by side all the time and it’s super annoying listing to this hemi shift up and down from fifth to 6th maybes 7th on the flats. Had a 2018 3.5 eco boost and was twice the truck this ram is how’re the ram interior and lights are way better. But mine is for sale not going to have a truck that can barely pull its own weight down the highway at 75mph.

I don't think power is the problem... probably just the way the gearing is. depends on the axle ratio too. I'm sure those turbos make a big difference in the Ford. Even in Tow/haul mode sometimes my Ram has to downshift once going up a slight long hill on the highway. But considering the weight of the truck that's not really uncommon.

I'm at the point, I'm done time for the lemon law to take over!

I haven't seen the downshift problem in mine with the 3.92's. In fact, I hold 8th while towing quite often when going through CAL and AZ on fairly level roads, and I don't use tow/haul when driving the interstates. I live in central WA, so I see the downshifting there while running MT, but only on the long grades. Gila Bend.jpg

Absolutely,...no turbos to take over. That's the main difference between NA and turbo engines. And with 3.92 axle ratio I can see how you wouldn't have any problems lol. I really wish I could've gotten a 3.55 axle ratio...that would've been perfect with my Ram configuration.
