I purchased a 2019 Rebel August 28. It had 171 miles because it came from another dealer. I've driven it less than 500 miles and it has gone into limp mode 3 times while driving on the highway. Only being able to drive 20 mph because trans goes into 1st gear and stays there. First time it happened I was able to exit and I restarted it off the highway and it seemed to reset. Same warning message on dash "service shifter" came on each time. Took it to dealer next day and the check engine light had gone off . Couldn't find anything wrong. Last time it happened dash said not to shift trans or try to turn off vehicle because it wont restart or shift. Was on highway again, so carefully drove on shoulder to nearest dealer. When I got to the dealer, I was able to shift it into park, but couldn't shut it off. Service guy got it to turn off. Left it at that dealer 90 miles away. They checked it out and got it running. They didn't find anything wrong. So today I drive up to get it a week later. I drive it to my cottage about 10 miles away. Runs great. Drive it around a little and park it in the driveway. After about 2 hours we get it and plan on going home, but now it wont start. Push start button, turns over but wont start. did it a few times, still wont start. I read on one of the forums about this problem and it said to try starting it with the remote. Did that and after a few seconds of turning over it starts. Runs really rough and starts to rev up uncontrollably. I was able to shut it off but it had rev'd over 5000 rpms. Gave up and called for a tow.
At this point I don't trust this truck anymore. Do I hope the dealer up north can figure it out? Do I have it towed back to my dealer and let them deal with it? Or do I give it back and get a 2020?

It's a lemon, either literally or according to most lemon laws that say 3 or more service visits for the SAME REASON qualifies as a lemon. Of course, check the laws of your state. Hopefully, the truck visited the service department each time it went into limp mode.

There is definitely a serious issue with your Rebel. Get out while you can if you have any hesitation at all. Don't keep a truck you can't trust.

Hi CJDave,
We regret to learn about your experiencing with your new Ram. If you would like, our team would be happy to get you connected with a Case Specialist to work alongside your dealer. Our team is available via private message.
