Disconnecting the negative terminal to install an AMP, will this cause my RAM to lose settings and trigger security issues?

So I want to install an aftermarket amp, was going to remove the negative cable off the battery and then bolt the amp power cable to the positive. This is a used RAM so I wouldn't know the radio theft codes...I know these RAM trucks take a few hours/days to relearn the systems after the battery gets disconnected.

What should I expect when removing the negative battery cable on these 5th gen trucks?

I can only add that you need to put some miles on for the vehicle to pass inspection at least in NY. Can't say how many and neither can the mechanic that does inspection. He said that varies with vehicles.

Don't need to worry about theft codes unless you are replacing the radio itself with a used one. Unhooking the battery won't cause any issues with your factory radio. The only settings you will lose is if you have the 8.4" nav, or 12" display, then your "theme" will reset to factory that is if you changed it to something else.

That defeats the purpose of disconnecting the battery

Things may be wacky for a day or so after reconnection. Missing apps maybe, idle may be off a little until it can relearn, emissions monitors will erase. There will be no permanent damage to anything. Nothing time and driving won't fix.

I’ve disconnected my battery dozens of times and never had an issue with anything. The only thing that changes is it’ll reset your “theme” and it’ll reset your radio equalizer (bass, treble, mids). Takes 10 seconds to change them. One time the backup camera was a blue screen; after turning the truck on and off it came back to normal.

If you are worried about it, I would buy one of those OBD battery savers. You can pick one up for $15 or so, you can use a 12V power source and connect it to the OBD, it will feed the computer power and prevent having to reset anything.

I haven't had to use it on my RAM yet, but have use them on other vehicles to prevent ECU resetting before a smog test for example.

installed a new battery last month....so everything was disconnected for about 10 minutes or so. No problems at all. Like others said, I think the theme went back to factory setting, and the audio settings ("equalizer") too. No big deal at all.
