Digital Key setup 2025 Laramie

Given the relative failure that is uConnect 5 thus far and have zero faith I would ever trust the digital key to work like it does in my wife’s BMW. With that said it is nice just being able to use my phone to get in the vehicle or start it up when she has the key in her purse or I’m already outside and don’t want to wait for her to get in and get ready or just need to grab something out of it.

Also would love for them to add back in park assist and freaking “auto hold” with the parking brake like dodge had with their ugly little dodge dart.

Darn truck sets the parking brake automatically when I put the truck in park. Why stop there with the ability?

Said “relative” not udder. And the software is super glitchy compared to most other manufacturers I’ve experienced. The amount of issues with CarPlay for people, I’ve experienced the choppy sound and lag when switching screens. It’s just very buggy but hopefully a simply sw update will straighten it up.

Otherwise I enjoy it and is the main reason I went with ram over ford.

I agree. The software isn't bad... In fact I think it's pretty good. But the coding vs say BMW needs a ton of work.

Real examples including how well voice commands are followed, lag when starting the vehicle, random reboots.

One thing I wish it would do that my bmw does is when I hit the phone button on the steering wheel it brings up recent calls from CarPlay on the instrument cluster and I can select someone to call. Instead of the call button bring up RAM voice control and holding it to bring up SIRI. Never much of a fan or voice control cuz I never know what to say. But given how cumbersome it is to go through menus to turn on things like heated seats or steering wheel that part is useful and respond well when I tell the truck to turn those things on.

update today - Ram activated the digital key for 400 vehicles yesterday, Feb 11. I called uconnect and was told they cannot activate anymore vehicles. They claimed more will be arrived soon as they roll out the “new” feature to more vehicles.

Thanks for the update. I assume it’ll be in the form of the new tile in the App. And although I refreshed mine several times, it looks like i’m not part of the 400.

Would love to learn what VINs were activated. Maybe there’s a clue.

The current launch is for vehicles built in 2024, which means that there could be folks on this forum who receive the update this week. The initial launches for any type of over-the-air update are always focused in the Metro Detroit area. For those whose VINs we have been collecting who are 2025 builds, we are still waiting to hear when the 2025s will be launched.

As a reminder, you do have to have the feature listed on your Window Sticker to be eligible for it. We did have a few people reach out early on who did NOT have it, so we just wanted to make sure to address that again.

You should see the following release notes for this specific update:

This update enables Ram Digital Key on your iPhone® or a compatible Android™ device which allows you to unlock and start your vehicle in place of your key fob. Please visit the Mopar YouTube channel for more information on how to set up and use Ram Digital Key.

My truck was built in Dec 2024, but I haven’t received anything yet. If/when I do, I’ll post back. Looking forward to seeing something.

Good question. My assumption is that it’s back-end switch that allows the tile to appear in the app. I saw this because the unicorns that have it already are likely running the same SW/FW on the truck as the rest of us. I don’t know this for sure, since it’s not easy to determine the versions of all the modules. But we know for sure the app gets updates and data based on VIN, so that seems like the easy way to control this.

Those are the remote commands. Go back up one level to the top level page. You should see several tiles immediately under the picture of your truck. Distance to Empty/Fuel Level, Reports, Campaign/Recalls, Digital Glovebox. If you’ve been enabled to use SPAAK, you should also see a new tile all the way to the right to find the Digital Key tile.

I know all that. But my point is, why do I need that key when I have all these options? I will not leave the
house without my house key, which is on my key fob. I also have the credit card thing that unlocks and starts the truck.
