Digital Key setup 2025 Laramie

“As we work towards its imminent release….”

Well…. imminent or end of year, which is it :)

The NFC card does not and has never worked since day one. I have been told that in order to get the digital key (SMAAK) to work, when it's rolled out, you need to open the app and it will have the digital key code. So, if that is the case, getting the digital key to work is contingent upon having the app. Right now, the app only tells you the fuel level and vehicle health, recalls and digital glovebox. The instructions on how to get the digital key programed, when it's available, tells you to open the app and get the digital key code.

So, If what I'm told is true it, sounds like I'll have to renew the app, just to get the digital key code and not knowing how long it's going to take to get the code in the app, spending $14/15 a month for the app that gives me features I really don't use, is a waste of money. Getting the NFC to work might be something useful because there are about 5 locations when I'm parked there that is causing some type of interference and I can only lock the door from the inside when i get out, the fob and/or handle will not lock the truck. When i return to the truck, the only way to unlock it is to use the manual key inside the fob and then when you open the door the alarm goes off. It may be RF signal from somewhere that causes this issue. Until I get back to the dealer for this and other issues, it's something I can live with. It would interesting to see if the NFC card would help when this happens, but getting the NFC to work is on the dealers list of things.
My NFC card was in the center console and worked immediately without any pairing in the app. You need to hold the card inside the driver's door handle to unlock and then place it in the driver's side wireless charger to start the truck. If your card doesn't work there must be an issue with the factory programming of your card.

We understand that the card works -- it's the using it to pair with our smartphones and use them as our key fob. That's what's been unavailable since supposed launch of this feature.

I don't think we'll use the backup NFC card to pair the phones. You'll just pair your phone much like you do for the rest of the Uconnect functionality. The fact that the NFC card is able to be paired (at factory) tells us at least some of the required function is already there. And then the fact that one other guy on this thread already has his smart phone working as a digital key is proof that the entire system is able to work.
I honestly think the truck already has what it needs. We need the Ram app on our phones to be updated to have the "tile" to allow us to pair.

You don’t need the card to pair your phone. You put your phone next to the wireless charger/nfc receiver during the pairing process. I found placing the top of the phone against the receiver worked best. Just hope you all get it soon. I’m not trusting mine until then.

If the blue light comes on showing it's charging, that should be the best indicator there's a connection, at least for the pairing...it shouldn't need physical contact like that but it can't hurt. Anxiously awaiting the next update (I alreayd got the security gateway update)

I don’t think I’ve even gotten the security gateway update. I don’t know of any way to tell. I thought the dealer notes said the updates would be done in March….. so who knows?

It didn’t work when I had it in the charger. When I held it with the top against the nfc symbol, it paired.

The on screen instructions say that you must select digital key pairing in the Ram app. I don't have that in iPhone App version 1981.
What procedure did you use?

I used that exact procedure. For some reason, when I downloaded the app there was a digital key icon next to the digital glovebox icon. It has since vanished and no one else has it. 🤷‍♂️ Its definitely weird.

When I took delivery and we were setting up the app, I briefly saw the tile too as well. The dealer was in the middle of explaining the use cases and we were going through PDI and in the midst of that the tile disappeared.

My guess is that once the app fully sync’s in the data from the truck and sees the UConnect not at the target firmware, the logic removes the tile. Maybe if I would have been fast enough to hit it in the middle of that sync I could have gotten lucky too.

I emailed that socialmedia contact regarding transparency around development and release and got a nothing answer back. I think if this drags on into next month I might send a note to Apple advising them that their listing of 2025 Ram 1500s as Carkey compatible and the manufacturer application claims is presently inaccurate…. I don’t know if that would create any favorable churn if Stellantis is somehow accountable to Apple in that way.

To me it isn’t so much about the feature itself, it’s the whole top-down lack of transparency and inaccurate information from development.

I purchased my Rebel X last week and when I updated the RAM app with my new truck while sitting at the dealership it prompted me to pair it and have use of the digital key. Since it was being cleaned, I closed that notification and that's the last I've seen it. I spoke to the Uconnect help folks yesterday and they said it's not available as of yet.
Where did you guys get the NFC card? The truck didn't come with it and I didn't even know it was a thing until digging through the forums.

Lack of transparency - absolutely.
Flat out lying about features - that too. This is just one of several that were advertised as being part of model year 2025 for months and months. Then some were quietly changed in small print at the bottom of advertisements to "late availability" (like the Digital Key). Some others were just quietly dropped from advertising and build documents.

RamTrucks.com as of this morning still says: "Get a live video stream from a trailer-mounted rear-facing camera with the available Digital Rearview Mirror with Tow Mode. Use Tow Mode to view what’s behind your trailer." Yet, there are no cameras available for 2025 trucks. The trailer surround view system was advertised for almost a year as being part of the tow tech package, and then was dropped. You can't even buy this system or the single trailer backup camera for 2025 trucks.

The Parksense Automated Parking System still shows "late availability" yet it has been confirmed by FCA/Ram that it will not be available for 2025 and will not be retrofittable if/when it does become available. This feature has been around since the first 5th Gens. My guess is that many of these issues are due to the new Atlantis High architecture. But regardless of what it is, I fully believe the issues are well known and understood, and Ram leaders have been briefed and are making decisions about how to handle the advertising and information release. Clearly, they've opted for significantly less transparency than we'd like. When pressed, they will say we didn't pay for these features, so we have no standing.

Ehh, wasn't there....maybe the dealer has it? I thought I read that some people had it sent to them after purchasing the truck
It has to be paired to the truck. So it's not something that can be simply mailed to you. A dealer will have to procure it, and then code it. Of course, your challenge is finding a dealer that has a clue.

Interesting that you too saw it for a moment until it fully sync’d to the vehicle. I wonder what would happen I went to “Account > Delete Account” in the app and then tried to set it up again, this time being a little quicker to hit the tile before it disappeared 🤔

I deleted my account trying to eliminate a sold car,
You will have to call customer service or buy a new car to get it back.
