My NFC card was in the center console and worked immediately without any pairing in the app. You need to hold the card inside the driver's door handle to unlock and then place it in the driver's side wireless charger to start the truck. If your card doesn't work there must be an issue with the factory programming of your card. The NFC card does not and has never worked since day one. I have been told that in order to get the digital key (SMAAK) to work, when it's rolled out, you need to open the app and it will have the digital key code. So, if that is the case, getting the digital key to work is contingent upon having the app. Right now, the app only tells you the fuel level and vehicle health, recalls and digital glovebox. The instructions on how to get the digital key programed, when it's available, tells you to open the app and get the digital key code.
So, If what I'm told is true it, sounds like I'll have to renew the app, just to get the digital key code and not knowing how long it's going to take to get the code in the app, spending $14/15 a month for the app that gives me features I really don't use, is a waste of money. Getting the NFC to work might be something useful because there are about 5 locations when I'm parked there that is causing some type of interference and I can only lock the door from the inside when i get out, the fob and/or handle will not lock the truck. When i return to the truck, the only way to unlock it is to use the manual key inside the fob and then when you open the door the alarm goes off. It may be RF signal from somewhere that causes this issue. Until I get back to the dealer for this and other issues, it's something I can live with. It would interesting to see if the NFC card would help when this happens, but getting the NFC to work is on the dealers list of things.
I don't think we'll use the backup NFC card to pair the phones. You'll just pair your phone much like you do for the rest of the Uconnect functionality. The fact that the NFC card is able to be paired (at factory) tells us at least some of the required function is already there. And then the fact that one other guy on this thread already has his smart phone working as a digital key is proof that the entire system is able to work.We understand that the card works -- it's the using it to pair with our smartphones and use them as our key fob. That's what's been unavailable since supposed launch of this feature.
You don’t need the card to pair your phone. You put your phone next to the wireless charger/nfc receiver during the pairing process. I found placing the top of the phone against the receiver worked best. Just hope you all get it soon. I’m not trusting mine until then.I don't think we'll use the backup NFC card to pair the phones. I honestly think the truck already has what it needs. We need the Ram app on our phones to be updated to have the "tile" to allow us to pair.
If the blue light comes on showing it's charging, that should be the best indicator there's a connection, at least for the pairing...it shouldn't need physical contact like that but it can't hurt. Anxiously awaiting the next update (I alreayd got the security gateway update)You don’t need the card to pair your phone. It didn’t work when I had it in the charger. I used that exact procedure. For some reason, when I downloaded the app there was a digital key icon next to the digital glovebox icon. It has since vanished and no one else has it.The on screen instructions say that you must select digital key pairing in the Ram app. I don't have that in iPhone App version 1981.
What procedure did you use?
Willy wonka like.toadsche is a "Golden Chid." That is the only explanation I can think of.
When I took delivery and we were setting up the app, I briefly saw the tile too as well. The dealer was in the middle of explaining the use cases and we were going through PDI and in the midst of that the tile disappeared.I used that exact procedure. For some reason, when I downloaded the app there was a digital key icon next to the digital glovebox icon. It has since vanished and no one else has it.Its definitely weird.
Ehh, wasn't there....maybe the dealer has it? I thought I read that some people had it sent to them after purchasing the truckin the console on delivery
Lack of transparency - absolutely. To me it isn’t so much about the feature itself, it’s the whole top-down lack of transparency and inaccurate information from development.
It has to be paired to the truck. So it's not something that can be simply mailed to you. A dealer will have to procure it, and then code it. Of course, your challenge is finding a dealer that has a clue.Ehh, wasn't there....maybe the dealer has it? I thought I read that some people had it sent to them after purchasing the truck
Interesting that you too saw it for a moment until it fully sync’d to the vehicle. I wonder what would happen I went to “Account > Delete Account” in the app and then tried to set it up again, this time being a little quicker to hit the tile before it disappearedI purchased my Rebel X last week and when I updated the RAM app with my new truck while sitting at the dealership it prompted me to pair it and have use of the digital key. Since it was being cleaned, I closed that notification and that's the last I've seen it. I spoke to the Uconnect help folks yesterday and they said it's not available as of yet.
Where did you guys get the NFC card? The truck didn't come with it and I didn't even know it was a thing until digging through the forums.
I deleted my account trying to eliminate a sold car,Interesting that you too saw it for a moment until it fully sync’d to the vehicle.
