I bought a 2022 RAM 1500 4x4 with the 3.6L 6 Cyl. eTorque, tow packages and differential upgrade to the 3:55. Towing my 6500 lb travel trailer I was unpleasantly surprised to get only 9-11 mpg. More unpleasantly surprised to find the computer says I’m only getting 11 mpg empty. Can’t be right, right?

One thing I’ve learned over the years is if you are towing a camper with a gas engine you are going to get ~10 mpg. Don’t care it’s a truck, suv, v6, v8, turbo, na, 3000lb, 6000lb, always seems to ends up around 10. It’s more about the huge windsail than weight.

Pretty much agree, even the Ferd 2.7 TT gets about 10 towing, the old 460’s got like 8. I had a 78’ 390 with 4.10 gears that got 8 empty or loaded.

If you are towing with a Pentastar, thats normal.
Now your unladen mpgs are low but check how you reset the lie-o-meter or hand calculate.

If you get the diff upgrade does that include any speedo calibration?
What diff ratio was the original?

I think everyone is correct, they will just get around 10mpg. I have the same 3.55's, 3.6 and 4x4. I regularly pull a 5000lb+ boat and gear. 10-11 is typical. I'm not pulling a giant sail like you are and can turn OFF tow/haul on the flat sections and she'll slide into 7th gear. If it makes you feel any better... My 4th Gen had the 3.21 highway gears and it got worse mpg on the interstate just driving, no trailer or load. The higher gears were just high enough to drop the RPM's out of the power band further and she rarely got into 8th gear.

What did you expect from a V6 and towing that much weight?

NO WAY! Man thats a bummer! You mean to tell me your towing 1k~ under your max limit with your V6 and your gas milage is terrible??? Wow, who would have thought! Lets buy a truck and worry about gas milage then be surprised when towing that much weight, let alone with a V6, and be this confused as to why your MPG is that of a TRX. Amazing.

with my ram in the collision center ive had the unfortunate opportunity to pull my camper with multiple different ram variations...

1500 5.7 with 3.92s (mine)
2500 short bed V8 gasser (rental)
2500 short bed diesel (rental)
3500 long bed diesel (rental)

they all tow a little different with my clear favorite being the 2500 diesel by far. Before this I towed with a Jeep Gladiator with the V6 and 4.10s (stock).

they ALL have gotten pretty much the same MPG...multiple terrains and distances but all with the same camper. Every truck got 9-12mpg, which has led me to believe that its just what's normal for towing efficiency.

as for your empty MPG, is the 11 still the average? or is that the active mpg? If its the average than it will go up over time as you put unloaded mileage on the truck. If its the active MPG, perhaps you should try and reset your mpg meter and see if that changes anything.
