Differential Additives

Did they say do not use it, or you don't have to use it. Cause I got "you do not have to." That's 2 different vastly different answers.

I my first reply I ment by you have to add it. As in the dealer will not warranty if it's not been added. If it's under warranty, add it it's not gonna hurt anything. It'll cover you if something breaks, and the dealer says well you didn't add this so you're at fault.

Two different tech reps at Amsoil said I DONT have to use it so they told me the same as they told you.
I did NOT put any additional modifier in my LSD. Put Amsoil in both diffs and xfer case and truck is driving better imo. Zero chatter in the back as well. I did all three at 62k, all were low especially the rear diff. Don’t trust a the dealer to check the levels at the 30k inspections; I would personally verify. Front and xfer case fluids looked pretty good clarity wise but rear was very dirty and lowest level of the three. Truck is much quieter in tight turns now too.

You have to be careful about the oil level in a differential after driving. I had a XXXX oil change company tell me my diff was low (2X4) and asked to top it off, so I said OK. It turned out to be way overfull, evidenced by removing the fill plug and having it drain out the hole. That was after driving two hours, and I stopped at a convenient location on my way to AZ. My theory is some oil splashed into the axle tubes, none the less it was overfull. I did it myself from then on, and it was always at the proper level.

Also, proper level is not even with the fill hole, it's actually 1/4" below fill hole IIRC.

Correct, so I have no idea how much they added, but it drained out of the fill hole when I removed the cap.

A good amount of gear oils already have limited slip modifier in them. Mobil 1 includes "LS" in the title.

A lot of times I changed fluid and then see if it has chatter...if not then no additive, if yes then add a bottle.

The all-steel clutches in my Dana 70 takes quite a bit of additive to quiet them. The clutches in my Silverado didn't need any extra. I don't think they added any in the Ram when I had it changed to Amsoil (no time to do it myself).
