Yep...I had cranked it pretty tight when I first put it on, but it was easy to break loose today. I’m a 250+ lb powerlifter, grew up wrenching on farm equipment, and have done a few oil changes in my day. So...I will echo the advice of another forum member to check your oil filter for tightness once in a while!Speedy v, So you are saying when you went to remove the filter that you hand tightened last change it was loose enough to spin off by hand?
i couldn't believe how loose that drain plug was....maybe 5-10ftlbs at best....
Update on my posts:
4th oil change at 18,000 miles, 7,001 miles on oil (Penzoil Ultra Premium, PUP) with a 30% oil life left. Filled filter with oil prior to install and added 6 1/2 quarts, resulted in 1/8" over fill dot. I installed the valvo max oil plug on this oil change and decided to remove a little oil to get it on "the money". Removed a little less than 5 ounces and now on max fill.
So 1/8th over fill is a little less than 5 ounces.
Valvo max works great and makes for a clean oil removal. Used 2 bags to remove the filter and was also a clean removal. Next step is to make some form of "funnel" for the filter and add 6 1/3 quarts when refilling.
Yeah, me too. Of course with no lift or hydraulic jacks/stands thatdoesn’t encourage me to crawl under either... Your dealer may send out a 4/$100, mine had one but it had a 24 month time limit and we only have 8400 miles in a year... 4 oil changes would be overkill!I don't see any reason to do my oil changes myself... my dealer charges $99.99 for 3 oil-changes, doesn't worth my time and effort.
Any other install and repair I can save money on, I'll be happy to do myself.
Did my first oil change a couple of weeks ago too. This was the aftermath of removing filter.
