Hey all, I've got a 2020 Ram 1500 with the Lonestar package. It's got the smaller screen and bench seat up front. I eventually want to change the display screen (if possible). I've been looking online and either am not searching the right terms or nothing fits. Not sure if this is something that can be upgraded. I would love to add a system which utilizes apple car play or just has a bigger screen. OEM upgrades would be preferred, let me know if anyone has done something to theirs and if you guys recommend anything. Thanks!

Hey Ddobey,
Just my two cents, but in my experience (I have the 8.4 inch), Android Auto and Car Play are more annoying than helpful. I'd recommend just getting a wizgear magenetic phone mount and putting it up just above and to the left of your screen. I use that method even with the bigger screen - just easier to use.

But to actually answer your question - I'm not sure if that is possible, but good luck! :)

My tradesman had a really tiny little radio that would not even link to my phone when I got it. I put in a Kenwood with about a 7 inch screen that will do Android Auto or Apply Carplay by bluetooth if your phone will. It also will play DVDs and CDs and has Garmin navigation (with limited maps). Link to my phone is bluetooth and works well. Installation was complicated by a metal brace that was behind the stock radio. I cut it out. Hasn't caused me any issues. I got an install kit and a wiring kit and soldered in the wiring without removing the stock plugs. It worked except for the wire that was to tell the radio the truck was stopped (permitting the DVD to work). So I put in a bypass (and now could in theory play DVDs while going down the road). This was not the first time I've put a new radio in a vehicle. The brace issue was somewhat expected based upon the warnings but was not at all unsurmountable. As long as you are will to use a sawsall on your new truck. With that brace in place, I do not think any aftermarket radio will fit, the space is just too shallow.

Crutchfield is a good source of information and a decent place to get a replacement. They will not be the cheapest but can help you know what is required and help you get all the pieces you need.

Went thru MVI (great people) and got the 12" upgrade screen with everything. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn, V6. They are even buying back the radio I had. Cost was $2400. Had the dealership install ($100). MVI provides the necessary software program for your vehicle to accept the new program.
