Curt front mount hitch

Take a look at the new DT trucks. My front plate seems to cover the area where you cut to allow the Curt to poke through.

Looked at my truck and now I see what you are talking about. That would be very close. Great pics. Any way you can show or verify how the tow hooks would be in the way of a front hitch? I would think hey would be higher, and the mounting would be inside them on the frame. But need to see.

In my experience with previous trucks, the Front hitch mounts in the same holes or area as tow hooks behind the front bumper. So only one of them can occupy the same space, for now. I don't have any personal experience with the 5th gen trucks but I bet its a safe assumption this is the same setup. I did communicate directly with Brad (product support specialist) at Curt and i'll quote his email to me directly: "the conclusion they came up with is that once the tow hooks are removed and the hitch is in place, the tow hooks cannot be put back in place. So at this point they are looking into a different option with this vehicle and hitch to see where to go from here. So right now, we don't have an option for a front mount hitch with front tow hook option". It might be worth calling Curt and letting them know you would like to do both and maybe that will be another voice to influence their product development.
 
Thanks. My '13 Avalanche allowed both the front hitch receiver without needing to touch the tow hooks as they are farther out. Let me know his number or email. I'll let him know the need.

Grabbed that from the install directions from Curt. I'm guessing you could just snip a piece from the place holder.

I don't think a cop would like you cutting a notch in a plate! I'd like to see one mounted with a plate mount there also. LOL

That would never hit the physical plate. Just the plastic mount. I think you would just need to notch that.

Maybe someone can post a picture of it installed with the plate mount notch?

I'll also have to wait for the tow hook fix.
 
Front Tow Hitch with Tow Hooks:

FYI - Curt IS in the process of making one that fits with the stock tow hooks. Here is their reply to my inquiry today asking if they plan on having a front tow hitch receiver that would fit the new 2019 Ram 1500's that have stock tow hooks.

Curt's Reply:
Our hitch will fit vehicles with factory tow hooks, however the hardware that we provide is not long enough to attach our hitch and the tow hooks. Some people have gone and gotten their own hardware and done this, but until we test the hitch with longer bolts I cannot recommend doing this. Our engineers are looking into the situation and have a couple solutions, but are waiting on testing. I cannot give you a definite time, but I can tell you that we should have something sooner than later.
 
I was misled on another site as well, and have a Curt front hitch sitting in my garage right now I'd hoped would be mounted up this evening. I don't see how the tow hooks and hitch can both be bolted on, even with longer hardware without a bit of fabrication work. I may look at it more though:). I looked at the license plate - I figured I'd move mine off center if I had to do so, but trimming the plastic would work as well.

I had a nice chat with someone at Curt who told me the same as above - it will bolt up, but you have to choose between the tow hooks and front hitch.
 
Thinking about adding this hitch to my new 2019 Ram 1500 for parking my Oliver travel trailer where I have to negotiate a long driveway with curves. My first thought was to get one of those decorative draw-bars accessories that go in the 2" receiver, you have seen them, there everywhere. Just get one that has a flat plate that you can bolt the license plate mounting bracket to, easy to pull the pin and remove it when putting in your draw-bar for use when needed. Yes the plate would be off when in use, but mine would only be in use around the house.

Not sure what you are talking about. Can you post a pic or two?
 
Having installed the front hitch it IS possible to install both, but very likely not ideal as you need to install a spacer for the rear tow hook that is approximately the same thickness as the Curt hitch, which means the metal tube stud does not contact the tow hitch as fully as it would otherwise. The factory bolts are long enough. Also the tow hooks are no longer centered top to bottom. I'm hoping they come out with a new version at some point.
 
I'll add that for a long hitch you could probably trim the license plate frame a little and be OK, but to use a winch you need an extension for the front hitch, and it appears I'll be finding a different way to mount my license plate (it isn't held in by a whole lot anyway to be honest!)

It looks like it would mount and hide nicely on the 1500. The only modification is a 2.5 inch hole cut in the lower front air dam. Since I don't have an active air dam, this would work on my truck.

I think it may help in some sticky situations when trying to maneuver a trailer in a tight space, has anyone used or installed one yet?

I'd like to see better pictures and hear from an owner that has installed one. Their online installation instructions look pretty simple and it wouldn't stick out and doesn't look to be too ugly once installed.

BE AWARE: This hitch does NOT fit the Rebel. I bought one and had to return it. I spoke to Curt and they confirmed they don't have a front hitch for the Rebel yet and they are not sure when they will :(
