I just read about stuffing a sock in the steering column to stop a creaking noise when turning steering wheel. Not sure where to stuff the sock. Any help appreciated. Ram Dealer hasn’t a clue . No recall on a issue of noise in steering column

My truck has also developed a creak in the steering column. Almost sounds like a little plastic trim piece creaking but seems to happen then the wheel is turned. Truck drives fine. Just an annoying little creak. Did you find any resolution for this?

I’m around 2500 miles. Is yours just an annoying creak from around the wheel ?
Yes only like the clearance around steering wheel and column is rubbing. Not a issue right now considering I have a massive oil leak and the back seat floods out when it rains.

Yes. I’ve had the truck a month. Started last week around 2k mi mark. Just any movement of the steering wheel even when parked makes this annoying af creaking sound. And it’s getting worse. I just can’t figure out if this is related to the harness on the floor pan that I’ve read about (sock trick) or what. Wish I could find someone with the same issue who has gotten it resolved. I literally don’t want to even drive the truck it’s so annoying.

I had the same problem on my truck and they replaced the "clock spring" and the noise is gone. Job took about 1.5-2 hrs at the dealership.

Did they have this part in stock or did you have to make a few trips to diagnose, order part etc ? Just trying to prepare myself for the cluster this will probably turn into at my dealership.

I brought it in once and the service department diagnosed it and told me what they thought the problem was. They ordered the part. I can't remember how long it took to come in because I was tied up for a few weeks before I could get back there to have it replaced. I never heard of a clock spring before so maybe its a known problem to them because I didn't mention that I just showed them my creaking steering wheel.

I have a 2021 ram 1500 limited longhorn with 1600 miles. Noticed in last 2 weeks that same creaking noise coming from steering column. 1st dealer said was normal. I am at the original dealer where I bought the truck and explained what's going on. I just showed them this thread and mentioned the clock spring. Will update after they are finished.

I had a squeak when turning the wheel.... had a similar problem on a Ford F-150 ...... the dealer sprayed some Dupont dry lubricant in the crack between the steering wheel and the column ...... (With the truck off since there's a lot of electronics in there). This completely fixed the problem, never had it again. I did the same on my Ram and so far so good

If not the clock spring, and I am sure this may be different from 4th gens - but the fourth gens I believe have a TSB or recall for steering ujoint at end of steering shaft. I know two people that had them replaced.

Just had my truck at the dealership today. They also said it’s the clock spring. They ordered the part but said it’s on back order with no ETA.
