Climate control on auto randomly shuts down

When i set my climate control to auto, and the fan is blowing full cold air, it will randomly shut down the fan to off as if I hit the climate off. This has happened multiple times now. It will start up after 10 secs or so. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello chemist2000,

This may be something beyond the surface. If you decide to have this looked at by the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help with that process.

I think (just a dumb guess with no proof or evidence) that that might be the way it is programmed to work?

Mine hasn’t done that yet, but my unlike my 2017 which after a few minutes would slow down the blower, this one on auto just seems to stay full blast the entire time. Idk why the newer truck seems to have a less useful auto climate control, but I’m hoping it figures itself out, or they release an update.

I have had the same thing happen, but only when I am coming to a stop. This is also accompanied by a transmission clunk just as the truck is stopping. AC starts blowing again as the truck gets moving.

I have the Hemi with eTorque. I leave my AC on Auto all the time. I leave the Start/Stop feature enabled all the time.

My AC works like I'd expect it to. When it's hot out, the AC fan is running full blast when I start the truck. It gradually slows down as the cabin cools off. I've never noticed it shutting off completely (which is not surprising, since I've only got 600 miles on the truck, had it for 10 days, and it's summer time here). It continues to blow even when I come to a stop and the engine auto shuts off.

I have never gotten any kind of transmission clunk, either.

The AC works pretty much just like the Auto AC in the '09 that I just traded in. The transmission is smoother than the 6-speed that was in my '09, as you'd expect.

I noticed today that as the cabin more or less reached the desired temperature, it switched from upper vents to bi-level or tri-level (defroster, dash, and footwell) for a minute or two. It seemed to be operating as designed, though.

My A/C randomly shut off for the third time since I purchased the truck last month. The first two times it did it during the first 2 minutes of driving. Today, I was driving for about 15 minutes. I had just put the truck in reverse to back into a parking space when it shut down. All 3 times, the A/C was in auto with the recirc button pressed. I sat parked for about a minute when the A/C turned back on. I have the non E-torque engine. Is there anybody out there that had this problem and took it to the dealer to have it repaired? What did they do to rectify the problem? I want to get a idea of what was done so if my dealer say's the dreaded "Can't replicate the problem" line, I can tell them what other's owners had done to correct the problem.

When my truck did it, the cabin was far from the desired temperature.

I saw some other posts about the AC where it seemed that people were very low on refrigerant in their system. I.e. they'd had a refrigerant leak. Or possibly it just wasn't charged properly at the factory.

If no better idea comes along, I think I'd be having the dealer check to make sure you are not low on refrigerant. I think being low can cause a compressor to freeze and shut off until it thaws out.

I'm know very little about AC systems, so this is more of a Wild-*** Guess than what you'd call an educated guess. But, like I said, if no better idea comes along....

When I eventually bring it to the dealer, I'll mention the underwhelming A/C performance too. Can't hurt at this point.

I have had my Laramie for a few weeks, but is a November build and have only ran AC in auto a few times, but the complete shut off did happen to me yesterday about 5min into a drive as I slowed to a stop as well.

Non eTorque here. It freaked me out big time as it was probably 110 in the truck so the fans were blasting away then as I stop whoosh... dead silence. I didnt wait for it to turn back on, I just turned up the fan and ran it on manual.

Very curious if anyone gets this looked at

I just contacted Ram Cares on this site and told them I want the A/C shutting off and it's lackluster performance looked into ASAP. We're supposed to take the truck on a road trip next week & don't want this to fail completely during the trip.

I just picked my truck from dealer last Friday for the air going out and squealing brakes, they told me both the blower motor needs to be replaced and brakes need to be replaced, both parts on back order

On my truck, I've driven consistently with the A/C on for 3 hours and it's never shut down. The first 3 times it done it, the A/C was running less than 5 minutes. Today it was running for 15 minutes. If my blower had a overheating problem, you would think it would of shut down several times during the 3 hour trip. That's causing me to think the cause (At least for my truck) is something else.

When your A/C acted up, was it running for only a few minutes or for a while?

Hi all,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated in your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.
