Clear Coat Bubbling

Just took delivery of my 19 last week. Been slowly looking o er the truck and noticed the front drivers side fender alignment was pretty bad. Seems like a lot of that going around.

But upon further review noticed some clear coat bubbling on both sides. Anyone else have this issue.

Already called the dealer and taking it in Monday.

Those are air bubbles that formed at the apex of what looks to be some serious runs. It is possible that a good body shop could have their detailer sand/wet sand then cut and polish a 1/16 of an inch of clear coat off of the edges there. I noticed that all of these trucks look like they were painted at 4:30 on a Friday but that is definitely bad. I would not let anyone repaint the fenders though... they will never match.

This is a clear case of quantity over quality. Supervisors needing the numbers and pushing everything through. As noted, trucks seem to be painted at the same time and I would bet upon further investigation probably the same spray booth.

I have obvious paint sags on both of my inside rear doors. They are both in show areas, not hidden. There is no way this should have gone by inspection. As good as our dealer paint shops are they are not coming anywhere near these!

Not to sound ignorant but what resolution could we possibly come to if I am not going to allow them to paint the doors?

Until FCA starts enforcing their WCM policies and reprimands line managers issues like this will continue. It has to become quality over quantity. I can not count on two hands how many paint defects I have seen on dealer lots in the last 5 months. Obvious ones, like dryed polish still on the vehicle.

This will do the trick. I've worked as a supervisor in a paint department in an automobile assembly plant. The paint is electrically charged and the body grounded to increase transfer efficiency (how much paint actually gets on the vehicle). The edges of panels sometimes have "fatty edges" due to this. When you get too much paint on a vehicle, the solvents don't flash off prior to the vehicle entering the oven and in turn, bubbles appears as these solvents release in the paint oven. Your vehicle is an extreme case of this issue but can easily be made better through a wet sand and polish.

I to have this same issue same exact spot as well as my gas door looks brown. I called the dealer and sent pics and they stopped responding. I did the survey today and left replies all over about the paint. Other thing I noticed is my tailgate straps do not hold tailgate on drivers side and when I lean on tailgate it creeks noticeably. Id like a resolution soon.

wow. Honestly, my 19' Rebel has one of the nicest paint jobs Ive seen on new trucks. I'm a body guy at a GMC dealership, and see so much junk come in here, brand new stuff.

I really hope the guy doing the cutting and buffing knows what hes doing, way to easy to burn through on that edge. some things are better left alone, I would have applied some touch up on that edge at the very most to hide the bubbles. consider it a little extra protection against chips

I have the tailgate cable issue as well. I am told that FCA is coming out with a cable 4mm longer for the passenger side.

I had a similar issue on my drivers side door sill. Had to be painted. It’s fine now but how the quality control missed the lack of paint on the spot boggles my mind. It’s all good now.

I have some sweet runs on my door. Just got it the other day so frustrating.

I my previous truck, not my RAM, there was a long paint run on the edge of the driver's door. Luckily it was just clear and they were able to wet sand it down.

The color is usually flat and the clear over it is what gives it the shine, usually the runs are just excess clear that can be polished down. Hopefully that's the case for your door and it won't require any paintwork.
