good thread to post this question. https://www.fumotousa.com/f106sx.html#product-details-tab-s

I'm going to buy this. Anyone running this on the Ecodiesel?

That's the one i use. Then I had a short 3-5'' tube I slide over it and its perfect. No mess.

My brother runs the fumoto drain valve on his brz without any issues.

I chose the valvomax as it doesn’t have an external lever to release the oil. I drive off-road a lot and I feel with my luck a stick would somehow get up there and drop all of my oil on a remote trail 30+ miles from cell coverage or civilization.

I actually thought, I had the right oil but it looks like I don't:
LLBA5BN.jpeg

It needs to be MS-12991. I have 40 liters of this stuff as it works on our Volksagen 1.8T and 2.0T (502 spec) motors. I was really hopeful it would work in the 3L EcoDiesel.

Can an internet sleuth help me not feel guilty about putting this in the truck. I don't think I can rightfully do that if it doesn't meet spec.

I did some more digging and Fiat, on some of their cars says the oil should be 9.55535 OR MS-12991 as if they're interchangeable. This is a Fiat motor.

If you compare my Motul to the Quaker state below, they are VERY close:

I'm a Fumoto fan. Put one on a Honda Pilot (with some trepidation: a valve? on the underbody? rocks and oil loss? LOLz.), back in '03.

I'm running them on every vehicle I own where they'll fit. (Otherwise, I added a Dimple oil plug. They have great magnets on them for pulling in all the swarf.)

There's a reason most valves are brass, not steel. You'll strip the valve before you strip the pan.

Tighten it once and you're done. Most valves are Brass because its cheap and very very easy to machine. Stainless, not so much. FWIW, I put the Valomax on mine and its perfect.

I am doing my First Oil Change on the Ecodiesel at 8500 miles. I purchased the
Fumoto F106SX to replace the Standard Drain Plug. I got a flat style Funnel for
the first change to try and keep it clean. A piece of 3/8 fuel line wire tied to the
cross member will make the job easier the next time. I have access to a Lift at
my local Makerspace tonight for the deed too.

As long as you do all you own, its fine. First time some oil change tech somewhere does it they break the clips, remove it or strip it not knowing what it is... Ask me how I know.

I too have been searching for reasonably priced and easily available oil for my Ecodiesel. I found this,

FRAM Full Synthetic 5W40 Euro Motor Oil

but it has conflicting specs.

I don't know why the above link says down for maintenance. The link does work.

If you enter your ecodiesel vehicle info, it shows that it is MS-12991 certified but if you don't enter a vehicle, the specs don't say MS-12991.

FITMENT DETAILS
2021 Ram 1500 Limited (3.0 2987CC V6 Diesel Turbo VIN: M)
  • FRAM FULL SYN EURO FORMULA 5W-40 TEST; Canada, United States; Temp: All TEMPS ; OEM: Chrysler Material Standard MS-12991 ; Service Notes:With Filter Change 8.45 Quarts Note: After refill check oil level. Top off to proper level as needed.; 2 Req.

  • SPECIFICATIONS
    Flash Point:428 Deg. F
    Oil Type:Euro Full Synthetic
    SAE Oil Weight:5W40
    Service Category:ACEA: C3 API: SN, SM, SL, GM: dexos2®, BMW: Longlife-04, Mercedes-Benz: 229.31, 229.51, Volkswagen: 502 / 505, Chrylser: MS-10850

Is anybody familiar with this oil? at $24.99 for 5 quarts, with free store pickup, its a bargain.

I looked at purchasing Fram oil as it's available locally at Advanced Auto Parts however I couldn't get over the stigma of what I consider to be the worst filter manufacturer selling oil for my truck. I know it's being done under license but still don't trust it like I do a more "reputable" brand.

For me, Quaker State Euro 5W40 is on the shelf and/or available for delivery from Walmart 99.9% of the time. It's a Pennzoil product and I'd trust it more than I would FRAM - IMHO. With that said, this time it was in stock on Walmart.com so they delivered both the Mopar/FCA filter as well as the oil to my house...filter was $48 delivered and a five quart jug of the oil was around $15 delivered.

I've been trying WM for the Quaker state now for several weeks. "Out of stock" is all I've seen. Can anyone confirm they are still carrying it? On another forum they said the Fram oil is made by Amelie.

I was in Walmart in Sugar Land, Texas and they have eight of the 5 quart jugs on the shelf. They are out "on line" but have it in five of the Walmart stores around southwest Houston area.

If I'm not mistaken, this Quaker State oil is being marked as clearance in lots of stores across the US and will be phased out.

I've read that in other forums. Might explain why no one around here has it in stock. One WM rep in the auto dept said she hasn't seen it in weeks.

Just keep in mind that not all 5W40 oils are OK. Mobil 1 has a Euro 5W40 oil on the shelf at Walmart, but if you dig into the specs on their website it specifically says "not for vehicles with DPF". You need to be careful what you buy for the EcoDiesel.

I'm running and testing the Quaker State oil still, but my next experience will be with the Motul X-Clean. It's listed at <0.8% SAPS which is as low as you'll find on an approved MS-12991 oil.
