Changed Dash Speakers To Kickers...WOW!

@1791 - The CDT's have been a great addition to my build! Had to get the CDT Audio CL-69S 4 Ohm version. the baskets on the standard version is too deep to fit. A couple of people thought I had a sub installed hearing the CDT's even before I actually had installed a sub box.

Yea I think it’s good but I just wonder if there is anything BETTER that these audio enthusiasts have done to limiteds with a vast improvement?
i like you mr BADRAMLIMITED.
i can assure you replacing every speaker adding 2 subwoofers and 3 amp's and a DSP is for sure a vast improvement. LOL.

I'm planning to order Infinity Reference 3032s for the dash replacement. Anyone interested in buying the extra one if I purchase 2 pair?

If you're running an amp, i wouldnt go infinity. I had them and ended up swapping for the kickers. They're crazy loud and the high are HIGH. They'll also blow pretty quickly if you're running an amp.

Thanks for the tip. I'm just replacing the factory speakers so they'll be running off the stock HK amp.

I installed all three front dash speakers and they sound awesome. But there’s definitely some volume loss I noticed. So I adjusted the fade more towards the front to compensate. I noticed when I was hooking up the harnesses that the polarity seemed to be backwards from the OE speakers. So swapped the black and white on the metra harness to make sure the OE wiring was going to positive and negative same as OE speakers. Should I have just hooked the metra harness up the way it was? Is that why the volume loss is so much?

the only speakers i didn't replace were the center dash and the headliner because i disconnected them. i used all metra connectors and i did not change the polarity. i think you should have connected them as intended

After listing more, I'm not sure much volume was lost, but I can definitely listen at higher volumes because it's so much clearer.

Still wondering about the polarity. Basically, I looked at the OE speaker before I disconnected it and checked which harness wire was going to red (I assume +) and black (-). Then I noticed if I hooked up the metra harness as it came, the polarity would have been backwards of stock.

So that why I thought I should switch them.

i removed alpine system all my speakers are bare copper from the female plug on the speaker. the actual male plug that go's into the speaker well those plugs are all various colors. the factory harness colors do not indicate any type of polarity unless you have a diagram to read. that's what's why a female metra harness is plug and play/idiot proof.
anyway i have done 2 base system upgrades and my alpine system all 3 times i used metra plugs. plugged them in and white=positive black=neg all the doors and dash.
i'm curious where your getting the black and red from?

Black and red was on the OE speakers

HK not alpine? that aqua/lt green capacitor on the black works as a 6db crossover for the tweeter and when you do a passive crossover like that normally it go's on the positive lead.
like this

Yeah, it's the HK system. Thanks for pointing that out. I noticed it and also noticed the Infinity speakers also have a capacitor wired to the positive. The red/black just through me off.

I should have just wired the metra adapters how they came. I'll be switching the wires back today. With them wired wrong, how is the sound affected?

it would have bypassed the crossover. it may or may not have damaged the tweeter but probably not because you did not throw a bunch of power at them and they are still mid range crossed a little by the amp.
i agree the colors can be misleading.

Ok. I switch the connector back and did some listening. The Infinity speakers are a little clearer than stock but also quieter. I often listen to my music at a moderate volume 16-18, not very often >20. So the loss of volume bothered me.

I tried different combinations of speakers - all 3 infinity, all 3 stock, corners infinity and middle stock, and finally corners stock and middle infinity. I prefer the sound of the later and found it a good balance of clarity and volume.

As mentioned before, sound is a personal preference so others may prefer a different setup. I will say, if there was no volume loss with the Infinity speakers, I would have all 3 up front.

Again, I have the HK system
