Change from P275 55r20 to either P275 60r20 or go to 18 inch wheels w/P275 65r18

I currently have a new 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 loaded with P275 55r20s (Bridgestone Duelers). I only do highway and city driving but these are a bit too low profile for me and can be a bit harsh over bumps, etc. (plus they are not the quitest tire). I want just a "little" more sidewall to cushion things better. Anyone have any feedback on doing P275 60r20 to soften the ride a bit or would i need to go to 18 inch wheels with P275 65r18. Appreciate the input and advice.

Well, I know you don't have the off-road package since you have the Bridgestones. And I feel that the Bridgestones are actually a pretty "squishy" tire. So I'm very surprised that you aren't enamored by the ride quality of the truck - of the ones I drove, the 20" equipped non-off road trucks were the most compliant in city driving, the 18" truck was a bit more squeamish. I still can't believe how well this new truck drives. Have you checked your tire pressures?

Where are you located and do you have air suspension?

(put your truck specs in the signature :))

I'm in Dallas, Texas. I am in no way saying the ride is not good. That is not the case. I would just like a "bit" more cushion, etc. I did test drive a 2019 Ram with 18 inch wheels and it was considerably more cushioned. I don't really want to switch out wheels unless I have to. Thus, going to a P275 60r20 would give me roughly another inch of sidewall. Bridgestones get VERY HARD in cold weather as I have noticed the truck doing better the past day or so since it warmed up. I was told that the Bridgestones are "not" a squishy tire. I appreciate your input and help my friend. No, do not have air suspension.

I am running 285/65/18 LT
on my Larimie and perfer the
Look over the low profile.
Also a nice saving on the tires cost
18 vs 20 or 22
You can probably trade your set for a set of 18's

Well, they'll fit just fine. Your speedo will be off by about 2.5mph at 80. You'll have more sidewall to squish. If your concerned about ride make sure to go p rated. Tire choice will make a big difference too

I chose the LT over the P as
I have 50 miles of Dirt Road where we go fishing in Wyoming and wanted the stronger sidewall.
Only had a few miles on the factory
18 P so not much to compare too

For the quietest and best ride you should look at some Michelin latitude Tour HP in 275 60 20. Like anything else the trade off for a soft compliant ride is going to be handling and tread wear.

Thanks. I don't really want to change out to 18 inch wheels. Appreciate your input.

Had the Bridgestones in that size and went to a XL rated P275/60/20s in Nitto Ridge Grapplers (not what you are looking for) but the extra sidewall does help with bumps and the look. IMO, a real good highway tire as suggested by @Billet1500 in P275/60 will get you a softer ride

Got any photos of your wheel/tire setup? In a dilemma keeping the 18s or upgrading to 20s.

I just upgraded from the stock duellers in 275/55/20 to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 275/60/20 and the ride is sooo good. I haven’t noticed a drop in my fuel mileage and the motor is running slightly lower rpms at 70. I’m happy

I have the exact setup you do and drive highway also and I also find the Bridgestone Dueler HL tires harsh on bumps and the 55 side wall size. I think Bridgestone tires are junk personally. I previously ran Michelin and Nokian tires and both are soft riding on my other truck. As others recommended try the P275/60R20 in a Michelin or Falken tire and the ride should be nice. I found that P rating made the biggest difference. I’ve got a set of 18” rubber I want to use but then I’ll have to find 18” wheels

FWIW, an acquaintance of mine runs a tire shop and he told me that the Dueler H/L’s are the best tires he’s ever sold. He said even without rotating them, his customers are getting 65,000+ miles on a set, and, with regular rotations, 80,000 is normal. I can live with that, and I think the truck rides great with them.

So far so good, wet weather traction is phenomenal. I was worried about the ply rating, but they seem plenty tough. A hell of a lot tougher than what they repalced.

They look great! Are your Falken's SL 115T load rated? I don't see an XL or E on their site in this size. I was told the minimum load rating was 116 and you could risk a tire rupture with anything less.

They are every bit as rugged as the tires that Ram sent the truck to me with for sure, the Duellers were like 114’s in the load rating . I have a lot of confidence in these Falkens and their thicker sidewalls. I did not want E rated tires to eat up my fuel economy.

How is the noise level with the Falkens? Higher or lower than the Bridgestone?

I just put 275/60r20 BFG KO2 on mine last week. I've enjoyed them immensely so far. Highway noise appears to me to be the same. 30-45 you do notice an uptick in noise. I suspect that will not be as noticeable in a couple 1000 miles.
