CarPlay not working properly

I have a 2020 Ram Longhorn. Has anyone else experienced problems with CarPlay? When I plug in to my USB port, CarPlay will work for a while and then just disconnect. At that point, the entertainment system will not even recognize my iPhone via bluetooth or CarPlay. I have to wait until the truck is turned off and then it must reset and I can go through all of the frustration over again. I just completed a 3,000 mile trip and relied on CarPlay for all my navigation. It got to be very frustrating when I was caught driving along and all of a sudden I would lose my navigation. The truck is only 3 months old and it has never worked correctly. I have Googled the problem and tried all of the fixes, but nothing seems to work. I was getting ready to take it back to the dealer, but first just wanted to see if maybe anyone else experienced this problem. Also, sometimes when using CarPlay, the whole left side of my sound goes out. I'm thinking I just got a bad entertainment system.

I'd try another phone first just to verify it's not an issue specific to your phone.

I had yet to try CarPlay until yesterday and it didn't work for me at first. Seemed to take a couple of minutes for the system to figure out the phone was connected, but then I saw the big CarPlay logo filling the screen and got some music playing. I have to say I'm disappointed in the implementation, at least as far as music playback is concerned. I have access to my library but not the playlists, genre, artists, etc. as I do in other vehicles, or at least I couldn't find these other features.

Anyone have better luck?

Or different cable.
I had a cable issue. I'd been using a budget no-name cable from Amazon for years but I only used it for charging in my old truck. Once I got my RAM (my first CarPlay) it would charge but not connect. I used my Apple cable and all was well.

I also bought an Anker braided cable (it's Apple MFi certified) for my kid to use (he's rougher on cables than I am) and it works fine too, plus it's USB-C.

I have not had any issues with my BT connection with either of my phones (iPhone X and iPhone 11).

I was told by RAM that the latest version was what was causing mine to not work
I would call bs on that one since I am up to date running version 13.6

Go here and run through the list of things that should be checked and configured properly there are so many things that can go wrong with Carplay:

Outside of making sure that the setting to use CarPlay while the phone is locked is correct, I would delete the phone from uConnect and re-pair it.

I've not had to do that on my truck but I have in some rental cars where my phone would have an issue. I would delete my phone and start over and it usually fixed the issue.

I had the same or similar issue with my 2020 Bighorn (⁶ passenger seat). I have a Google Pixel 2 XL and wife has a Google Pixel XL. I have a USB C to USB C plugged into the top USB C port. When I have my phone connected, Android Auto launches automatically and starts Google Maps and Google Play Music. After a while ( maybe 10 or 15 min) it shuts off and states their is an error so I have to unplug and plug back in. Wife uses that same cable but doesn't have an issue. I bought a different cable USB to USB C and works fine with my phone ever since.

My android auto has been nothing but nightmare since owning, with that said since last update it will hardly ever connect, tried multiple phones( even iPhone for carplay) , multiple cables (oem as well as known quality cables) and nothing connects. Plug same phone/cables into my mustang and connects everytime even with crap dollar store cable. Hoping better update comes soon. Clearly firmware issue. Only gripe with my Rebel.

I don't have an iPhone so I have not experienced your problem. However my story is more bizarre than anyone else's I have read in this thread. I use android so my story is an Android Auto (AA) one. I had many AA issues from the start and tried everything under the sun, and gave up for a while as it just didn't work. Then I took my vehicle in for the first oil change and asked them to look at it. When they gave it back to me they said they had plugged in an iPhone because they didnt have an android phone (huh?) and it worked fine. So I plugged my phone in and sure enough it went through the whole sequence of installing. After that it worked! The only oddity now is sometimes when I plug it in it goes through some fast charge/no charge/charge/no charge sequence until I unplug it then flip the cable plug over at my phone (USB-C) and it immediately connects and stays connected. I can even unplug it and replug it and it reconnects immediately and stays connected. Sometimes it just connects first time without flipping the plug over.

So whatever the system did when the dealer plugged up an iPhone seemed to fix it for my radio. Also during all the time it didn't work, other phones could connect fine, but not mine. Ever. Until that trip to the dealer. FM.

I pretty much only use apple carplay and its never given me any issues and it only takes a few seconds for it to connect to the truck.

-Make sure its a high quality cable, i use the cable that came with my phone.
- check for updates on your iphone

other than that, take the truck to the dealer, see if they can reset the computer.

I had this problem with the CarPlay freezing. I got rid of my generic cable and used an Apple cord and have not had issues since.
