The SIM card is used if you don't want to pair your phone or don't have one. With a SIM card in the box, it acts as stand alone phone. You will need a SIM card from a provider, and of course pay the service.

Carlinkit AI Box for full screen AA?

I got the Carlinkit Tbox set up, connected to my phone via Bluetooth and using my Wi-Fi hotspot. However, when I tap the Autolink app to connect to Android Auto, it just says "Waiting". After multi attempts, I gave up. I sent an email to Carlinkit customer support to see if they have suggestions.
Android 13 works perfectly and I can use Google Maps, etc, but you can't pinch to zoom in/out using Google Maps. I looked for settings to allow pinch zoom, but there is no such setting in the Tbox. Tapping on the screen allows you to zoom in and you can zoom out by re-centering the map, but I'd rather be able to pinch zoom.
Any suggestions on either issue?
Edit: It looks like there's a solution to the zooming in/out issue. I'll try it tomorrow.

You have to run CarPlay if you want full screen Android Auto.
I figured it out. I connected the Carlinkit to my phone via Bluetooth instead of the WiFi hotspot and I got it to connect to Android Auto.
I'm not sure why you're concerned whether I'm running Android Auto or not. I realize I can use the Carlinkit to use my display as an Android tablet, because I ran it that way. I just want the option to switch to Android Auto.

You guys ever run into the issue where AA won't "hear" your voice commands? You get an annoying sound, like the Family Fued X, a few seconds after google asks you what you want. I get it at least 5-6 times per week. I've used a similar box as those on this thread for over a year now. Got tired of the failed voice command. Went back to the Ram wireless and AA and I still get the failed voice command. I've found that I have to go into my phone settings and force stop AA, then it'll start working. Can't text, can't call, AA doesn't let the voice command do anything......

Have you been able to customize the home screen of the elite carbox? There are few things driving me absolutly crazy on this but its close to what i want. The home screen has too much **** on it and i cant customize it. I want to get rid of some of the widgets etc. And the thing that drives me the most crazy is there is no static home button i hate having to tap and click the ffoating icon - too many steps to do somethign simple. The split screen deal works but it its half assed i honeslty love apple car play and how i can just use my phone to send everything i want but hate i cant run any app that i want .Nice work @MannyN. Was able to take screenshot from Torque. others are from camera. There is one app in this is underrated. Its called split apps and you can save ratio of full screen. So im running 6:4 ration Waze n Spotify. one click they both open like that. only annoying part is, if either one of app gets updated that has to setup again.
Generally, Im a happy camper

Sorry for the late replay, didnt check the forum recently.
I had purchased already Nova launcher and tried it. working fine. there are some car launchers in the play store, do some research that fits you.
I have moved to theme 2 (or something it called) that give ok home screen. thats what Im running for last couple of months.
One thing I found as in issue is that back button u have to look n touch. Thats annoying. I ended up using this app.
Edge Gestures
It helped me to setup edge moves that I can use without looking for an icon on the move.

I tried several options along the lines of Carlinkit and here is what I learned. I can post pics if anyone thinks something would be helpful :
1) My primary reason for this was full screen android auto - its rediculous that it doesn't work, RAM Uconnect is based on Android and other platforms its actually Carplay that struggles with different aspect ratios. Some boxes reportedly do not work well, some do, after looking at them I believe it comes down to the processor in them (newer or higher end have better video adapters) and the Android OS version # (boxes typically are several generations behind and using software that is "customized" mostly via rooting, android customization apps, etc
2) Both boxes I bought worked fine - one is the CB6 (you will find many variants on Amazon with one days shipping) and the Ottocast E2
- they both were fine with displaying horizontally, and fine with split screen working correctly and not trying to split it vertically (it just looks like you epect it to)
3) The CB6 has a slightly newer processor and Android OS version, so I expected to like it best, but I realized the software is so janky on stuff like this, their essentially like mass produced home made walmart android tablets, that the Ottocast was better for me because I ended up liking using it as an actual device, rather than just a way to get Carplay / Android Auto access, and the Ottocast devices are so popular that the software is a little older but more adapted to the hardware - its just stabler and smoother.
4) I would rate the Ottocast at or higher than the RAM software experience, except with alot more features and a much much better sim card / hotspot signal, and I would rate the CB6 just a little below the RAM software - perfectly usable, but better off as a way to get android auto fullscreen / watch videos while driving than as a full featured device
5) Both had some weird chinese stuff, and some apps with limited function, but both were easily customized to a new launcher and new widgets
6) I recommend anyone experimenting with this either google alternative launchers ( I liked a few others like Vivid) just start with Nova and add widgets to avoid compatibility issues at firsthand
