I've had this sound coming from under the hood of 2019 Ram Limited. Sounds like a fan or a buzzing type sound that only goes when I'm coasting no matter the speed. Doesn't happen when I'm accelerating. Dealership said it was the MDS. Had all 4 replaced and the sound is still there. Now they are saying it may be a lifter problem. They seem confused because everything is working fine other than this sound. No ticking from engine either. Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas as the dealership is not much help right now

Do you have an E-torque? How many miles on the truck?

Its been a while since my 2020 Limited, but activate your ECO display in your settings, if you don't already. On the older trucks, ECO just meant you were driving gently, and had no tie into MDS directly. On the 2019+ units, it is more directly tied together, as the ECO light/logo will only show up on your cluster if MDS is active and the setting for the "light" is turned on.

After you do that, if you have not already: Does the humming only occur when the green ECO bit shows up? If so, it may be MDS. If it occurs also when ECO is not showing up on your cluster, than it may not be MDS, and you may want to check your front CV axles and other bits there. Some of that noise can be hidden by other, regular noises when accelerating, so it could explain why you only hear it when off the gas.

Never trust dealerships 100%. A lot of times, if the problem isn't obvious or there is no trouble code, they will say "no problem found" without any troubleshooting.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
They already "fixed" and replaced the MDS so hopefully it can get figured out.
