Brand new 1st time owner of both a truck and a RAM. Just picked my 1500 BigHorn on Monday after having driven the amazing 5th gen Rams back in October 2018 for the first time, at which time I was thoroughly impressed with the truck’s capabilities, comfort, quality and interior. Coming from a ‘17 5 Series, it’s a big jump in drive height and feel.

I got my ‘19 1500 BigHorn with a few options including the LED lightning package and parking sensors and cameras and other small goodies. It is bright red (my apologies for not knowing the colors name) with chrome bumpers and grill. I wanted either a red one or a gray one with certain options and after 3 weeks of looking here in Houston, I finally found two equipped exactly the same (both had the extra option of sidesteps which I hadn’t included) and I thought it looked better red with the chrome than grey which was the other color I was interested in.

Anyways, if you made it through all that, I appreciate it and I am definitely looking forward to owning this truck for a while. So far I am loving it! It’s amazingly comfy and spacey and smooth. And I love the look both outside and inside. FCA definitely stepped their game up so much that imho they set the new standard for the other two and everyone else that’s in this tough pickup truck market.

One last thing that I’ve noticed twice and it’s bothered me a bit...sometimes when I slow down to a stop and not fully stop the truck, kind of a rolling stop; and I accelerate again, the transmission downshifts abruptly to match the engine. It’s a small jerk that’s a tad noticeable and doesn’t feel very good. I was wondering if anybody here had a same experience. If it gets worse I’ll definitely talk to the dealership.

EDIT: I forgot to ask! Does anybody else thing the led drl’s are a bit dim? I wish I could put in brighter led’s so it looks a bit brighter like the drl’s nowadays.

Thanks for reading!

Regards,

Aevus.

Welcome to the world of Ram!!! I can't remember a sensation such as that when decelerating to a slow crawl, but have only had our truck 6 days.

Are you talking about the LED trim around the headlamp? Someone else asked that question earlier about them thinking they are dim compared to others. I actually prefer the light level of the RAM to how those other look, but to each their own of course.

Congrats on your purchase... there is a wealth of information in this site

Did you get the eTorque option? I'm wondering if it was the auto start/stop function you are currently experiencing. I can't comment on the DRL since mine is a Rebel

I appreciate both of your responses and thank you for welcoming me to this amazing forum! I have found a plethora of information already.

Unfortunately I had my first oops already and I parked too close to one of those parking spots in which the shopping carts are held...long story short I chipped an area of less than half an inch (maybe smaller) on the edge of the drivers door. Not happy! It is very small and I’m hoping I can have it professionally fixed so it is virtually unnoticeable. After that I am definitely installing the 3M Scotchgard Door Edge protectors.

Does anyone here by any chance suggest a shop or someone in Houston Texas? I am going to contact this guy called “Houston Paint Guy” that has amazing reviews.

Anyways, something I did find is that the jerk motion I had previously talked about is kind of getting smoother...don’t know if this sounds confusing but when I search in this forum a couple of times, I ended up finding out something about how these 8 spd trannys have a certain learning curve? I should’ve saved the post. Anyways, that’s getting better!

Hope everyone is having an amazing Sunday.

Welcome. Congrats on the new truck. Sorry you’ve already gotten your first road rash. At least you got it over with.

Make sure you go file for this additional rebate. Seems like they have been having problems with vin numbers being in the system so you have to call them so they send you the actual app. Do it 60 days of purchase. Many of us have already received our checks. No strings attached.

The only qualification is that “someone in your household” must have a non-FCA vehicle.
