Body Color (or black) Front Skid Plate

coloe matched the trim above the grill, skid plate and mirror covers (bought these). The skid plate i put on a few extra coats of 2k clear to make it more durable and for it to be slightly different by being so glossy and light reflecting off i

looks fantastic!! That's exactly what I'm doing with mine. Already painted the piece above the grill as well as the hood vents. probably tackle the skid plate next week. Also thinking about doing part of the grille. Not sure on that yet though.

Man, nice pictures you guys have here. Took my truck off roading and scratch the skid plate up pretty bad. Was thinking of linex my skid plate, and fenders flares possibly. Like some of you, I'm stuck between keeping the original silver, or going black.

I too was stuck between silver and black for awhile. Went with plastidip first to feel it out and decided on the blacked out look.

Removed the dip and added a few coats of Rustoleum matt black bumper paint. Easy to get in case I need to do some touch ups in the future.

I just cleaned mine up with soap and water. Lightly scuffed the grooves with some light sandpaper and hit it with paint. I used the Rustoleum bedliner stuff so I'm assuming it should stick on there pretty good.

thank you, after watching a few youtube videos, some steps required activation for proper adhesive. definately a fun weeeknd project ima have to plan. i see it being a 6 beer job

I haven't painted the skid plate yet, but my plan is as follows,

Scuff sand the whole thing with 320 grit, hit it with a couple coats of primer, paint with body color spray cans from https://www.automotivetouchup.com/.

Then top it with several coats of 2K clearcoat.

This is how I did the grill trim piece and it's held up great.

Had the dealer powder coat the stock rims, paint the skid plate, and add a level kit. Black RAM letters in the mail. Happy with how it came out. Now I’m not sure if the stock tires are to small...

Mine is plasti dipped also, I went a little further and painted the hooks and outer edge of the grill letters a deep red. I’m thinking about blacking the front of the Ram letters, and keeping the red outline. Opinions welcome.

Any of you that did the rustoleum skid plate have issues with it chipping? I did mine with at least 5-7 coats and it has been horrible with chipping.

I did five coats of rustoleum / three coats of clear and the chipping started within a month... I had it sprayed at Rhino Linings and it looks so much better and no chips (so far).

Solid - yeah that was my problem too. Did you have to take off the skid plate for Rhino lining/pay labor for them to remove/install? It was such a pain taking apart/reassembling my bumper that I am trying to avoid doing it again at any point soon haha

I taped crazy when I painted, but Rhino wouldn’t consider just taping (fear of overspray)... they removed the skid plate and painted for $250. I was pleased (a little surprised) with that price and the result looks professional. I highly recommend this route.

plasti dip will work great if you do it right. for the front do like 6-8 coats and clean with glass cleaner or water. I have done my rims on my old truck and the front grille of my wifes jeep and lasted for longer than 2 years in canadian winters with a ton of salt. no issues with fading or anything... and if a chip happens its easy to touch up...

ill be plasti dipping my skid plate soon...

I dipped mine originally, held up great for about a year until the edges around the tow hook holes started to peel. It got very torn up on the bottom offroading, but that is perks of being on a skidplate.
