awaiting arrival next week but in meantime I got this email from RAM. Is it true that every 10k miles they want you to replace the belt?

If that is the case every dealer should have boxes of these things laying around.
That's interesting. Does that match what's in your owners manual? I just checked for my 22, and it doesn't call for replacement until 150K.

I don’t know where that chart is from. It shows replacing spark plugs at 30k miles, and the correct interval is 100k.

Yeh. I’m gonna reach out to the service dept at MD because it came from a vin specific link to their “owner +” site and it seems to be contradictory to what’s said in the owners manual.

These are the 2 belts that I have. The first is Mopar 5281514AA from Rock Auto listed as Hemi eTorque. The other is Mopar 5281957AA Hemi eTorque. The Larger belt has 8 ribs and is labeled as 8pk1620mm (1620mm, approx 64 inches) I measured the belt at approx 64 inches. The second smaller belt is Mopar 5281957AA Hemi eTorque. The smaller belt has 3 ribs and is labeled as 3pk809 (809mm, approx 32 inches) I measured the belt at approx 32 inches.

I also have a 5/32" drill bit in my truck to lock the spring tensioner back prior to removing the stop and releasing the hydraulic tensioner pressure. I just need the stretch belt tool.

Posting as a public service announcement and to see if anyone else has experienced the following.

SITUATION:
2021 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7L Hemi WITH E-torque
Current mileage 9,946
Bought brand spanking new.

On July 15, towing a 6k camper trailer, in tow/haul, adaptive cruise control.
60mph, Sierra Nevadas outside Reno headed towards CA.

Hooked up the trailer, got on the freeway, literally, from this exit to the very next exit, the truck shredded the main accessory belt.

No cause noted. Sounded like plastic bag in the fan, truck kept towing, no CEL no lights.

Pulled of the next exit, belt had shred from the front of the belt towards the back of the belt. Belt fiber EVERYWHERE.

All pulleys working, nothing seized, no road debris as the cause either.

Here’s the kicker. Not a single auto parts store (Napa, AZ, Oreily *could not cross reference and did not stock) and not a single Ram dealership with in a 4.5 hour drive stocks/Stocked a single Accessory belt for the 5.7 Hemi WITH E-Torque.

So, if you plan to tow. Bring a breaker bar, and order a belt ahead of time. Part # 5281514aa

Truck is currently at the dealership (was able to limp it home with 1/4 of a belt left after having friend pick up the trailer). By the time we got into town, the E-Torq/Alternator had stopped charging or running electronics.

Dealership is “booked out” for the next 8 days. And advised it would take 5-7 business days to ship the belt to them.

Part # from several Ram Parts Depts 5281514aa.
Mopar.com shows a belt diagram with the listed part number, in the correct configuration, but states that this part number will not fit an ETorq 5.7 Hemi.

So, not even Mopar is sure what belt fits what.
Tried to verify if the belt from a standard 5.7 would work, no dealership I called while broke down could verify.

Thoughts: maybe the ETorq seized momentarily caused the belt to shred but continued working.

Will keep thread updated.
Ran into a similar issue today. Etorque was replaced on our 2022 5.7 L wagoneer under warranty a week ago. Today the jeep stalled sitting at a redlight, not auto stop start, a real stall. Shift to park, restart and it was banging and clattering and smelling of burning plastic while limping into an adjacent parking lot. Pop the hood and the hydraulic tensioner is folded over pinching the serpentine. My guess is the tensioner was bad and that ruined the bearing in the alternator. Alternator was replaced and then a week later the tensioner let the ghost out.

It's hard to tall from the photos, but it sorta looks like the belt is on the wrong side of the idler wheel. Did they assemble it wrong? Or did the belt make a double jump?

Belt route looks okay to me, we drove it for a week so i cant imagine we hadnt used the start stop yet. The hydraulic tensioner is rotated clockwise jammed against the spring tensioner on the right side. The hydraulic shock is angled instead of vertical.

I'm just having a hard time figuring how it would pinch that far together, unless that idler in the middle fell off, where your red arrow makes a sharp right turn.

Yeah I'm not sure. If I was designing it I would have the shock stroke small enough that the link couldnt switch between the two stable positions of the link. I guess it's possible they installed it wrong with the tensioner clockwise past the point where it's in a line from pivot through the two hydraulic rod ends. Not sure how it wouldnt happen earlier like that. Dealer refused to look at it today. I'm interested to hear what they say Monday.
