Backup cam blue screen of death

I factory ordered my 19 Ram Rebel 12 Crew Cab, with RamBoxes, spray in beddliner, four corner air suspension, and just about every other available option in Oct 2018. It arrived at the dealership almost two months to the day later in mid December, and I took delivery two days later with 6 miles on the odometer. Less than 2 months have passed since taking delivery and I only have 926 miles on it. Today, the backup cam screen went blue (see attached photo) with a message that the camera system is unavailable. I contacted the dealership service department and the adviser said it's not an issue he's heard about. He scheduled me for an appointment in 5 days. Fingers crossed! 12B764C4-998B-49EC-AA62-236D5C3D24A2.jpeg

Funny thing, a neighbor who bought a 19 Big Horn, Quad Cab with the 8.4" had his backup cam guidelines disappear several times over the past week or so. His come back on and go off randomly.

This does not leave me with a sense of confidence less than two months into the life of my $62,700 MSRP Ram.

Maybe the harness that you would normally disconnect for tail gate removal came disconnected. Does the tailgate remote unlock work?

Hi, thanks for the reply. The locking/unlocking and tailgate release work as they're supposed to. I have seen in other forums and threads several backup cam and guidelines troubles have occurred on Rams with factory sprayed in bedliner a, which I do have. There has been mention of the the tailgate harness. I am going to let the dealership diagnose the issue and document it, in the event it is a persistent fault, as I only have a little over 900 miles on the truck.

Will post the what they tell me at the dealership on Monday!

I have the 8.4" and get a similar thing but black screen. It comes and goes. First thought it was due to a software update. Seems to be happening more and more frequently but still too random to take into dealer.

Dealership said not heard of it, BS.. Problem ID in past.

1) Pull panel and check plug in from harness to Camera (#1 troubleshoot). If all good, pull, clean, a lil dielectric grease and reattach. See if camera works,.
2) Pinched cable at tailgate area.
3) Imput cable back of head unit. Now that takes a lil work to get to.
4) Bad camera,

I’ve had the exact same problems, as well as other electrical issues, the dealer has had the truck 3 weeks now trying to fix it and they still can’t figure out what them problem is. I’m on my second “Star” FCA Engineer and still no luck.

Same issue here, just dropped it off this morning, bu unless they can dupliate it I'm sol on getting anything done. this is my second camera, first one wasn't broken but they replaced it to rule out any interference with my radio. Since then, black screen maybe once a week.

Just experienced my first blue screen of death today. Coincidentally 2 weeks after they replaced the radio due to constant reboots while driving. Heading to dealer later today.

Mine had this today, pushed in and held the volume button and tune button until the radio reset and it works now. Maybe that will work for you?
Have a 2020 2500 with 12”. No warning then bam blue screen. Took apart tailgate camera wiring and cleaned. Took apart dash and cleaned connectors. Still blue screen and none of my other cameras work either. And of course right as the warranty expires….
Trucks been a major lemon unfortunately. Had the fuel pump go bad after 6 months and destroy the entire fuel system (2 months at dealer for repairs) check engine light comes on every week with regeneration error, fuel filter errors even with new fuel filters…smh.

If you have trailer back up, there is a recall. I don't know if it causes the blue screen, but the recall has to do with backup camera not working when shifting into reverse.
