The most common is 20'x20' but normally that is the outside dimension, you lose room with the door and drywall. If your building a house make sure you address the garage size with your builder, amazes me how many people over look it until it's time to park thier 20' pickup truck inside.
For a custom house -
For a single bay garage to take a non-lifted pickup you need a 10’ wide x 8’ tall door.
Having a double door works if the wife has a smaller car but if the wife is driving a Tahoe or Suburban no can do.
Sure you can go to a 20’ wide door but I would rather have a set of double 10‘ doors.
So if you are building custom home and have a few dollars left over you want two bays with 10‘ wide doors and add two feet between the garage doors so passengers can get in and out.
Now add three feet on the walls so passengers can get in / out so we’re now up to a 28’ wide garage,
A two foot bench running with width of the garage for tools plus a three foot wide walkway between your hood ornament and your bench so you can get a screw driver off the wall at 22:00 or work at your bench without backing the truck out of the garage.
Now add the 20’ long truck and one foot at the rear bumper and shazam we’re now up to a garage that is 26’ deep x 28’ wide.
More is better but these are the minimum numbers for a “comfortable“ custom garage with a workbench for dad to putter.
Start adding bikes and trikes and kayaks and someone‘s $55k vehicle is sleeping outside in the hailstorm to protect a few $300 bikes.
7’ tall door fits a non-lifted truck (even my ORG-equipped truck with the air suspension fully raised on stock tires). You wouldn’t want to risk it with any lift, though. For a custom built house -

For bonus points a ten foot ceiling so you can move around a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood without knocking off a light or two.
Then for your last of pennies in your pocket add in a bunch of high powered LED bulbs to light up the garage at night.
Don’t forget a lot of plugs along dad’s bench.

Same. I have a step along the front so I can only pull in so far. The 4" shorter Quad Cab made all the difference. Pics from my QC 'test fit' before I bought my Delmonico Red. Dealer initially didn't want to give me a QC to try since he thought it was the same length as the CC I already tried (and failed) to fit in there. My garage was advertised as 20’ deep but in reality it is just 19’6”. I purchased a quad cab long bed because it’s overall length is shorter than the crew cab short bed. I have a tennis ball on a string to help pulling in. I’m fine with the 7’ door, no plans for larger tires of a lift kit.
I have a step in the garage, too, so backing my CC short bed in is my only option. Haven't done it yet, hopefully it will work!Same. I have a step along the front so I can only pull in so far. I prefer to keep my vehicles out of the 3-5 surprise hail storms that tend to pop up around these parts.
one more reason to get the air suspension, I just lower it to Aero to be safe when I go in garage.Only reason I mentioned 8’ was it makes it nice if you plan to lift …. With the darn shark fin, it doesn’t take much to get to 7’
