Any way to move rearview mirror camera from CHMSL to rear of truck topper?

Did you end up doing this? If so, does it work well with that length of extension cable?
Been too busy to even do anything with my truck. I have the cable, camera and housing ready to go, maybe this coming weekend I can get to it.

I finally got a chance to do it this weekend. I used 2 cables, a 30ft RG58 FAKRA female to female cable and a 6ft RG58 FAKRA male to female cable. I ran the 30ft cable from the DRVM down the A pillar, out the firewall then under the truck all the way to the Driver side tail-light assembly where it meets the 6ft cable that runs to the rear top of my truck cap. I used the camera enclosure that KPECKS (from the HD Ram forums) 3d printed for me. The reason I used the joined cables is that when I need to take my topper off, I can easily disconnect the cables to make removal painless. I also used a new camera, leaving the original in the CHMSL for later use if necessary. The picture quality is the same as it was using the stock camera in the CHMSL.

Now I just need to decide if I want to spend $500+ on the 2 camera input DRVM so I can mount a 2nd camera inside my truck cab so I can easily monitor my pups when they are back there. DRVM.jpg

Has the picture cut out on you at all where you had to turn off the DRVM and turn it back on? Any periodic flickering?

nope, been perfect. I purposely used the RG58 cable because it is specifically capable of being used for longer runs like mine. My commute to work is about an hour and San Antonio drivers suck, the peace of mind of being able to have a rear-view again has been awesome.

Which camera did you purchase and did you retain the camera's pan and tilt function in the mirror.

By the way my 2023 TRX appears to have two cameras in the third brake light.

I'm buying a camper shell and want flush mount a the camera in the shell next to its' third brake light.

You can only use the DRVM camera. You can buy just the camera. And you don't have 2 cameras. The other area is where a cargo cam can go, but that's not an option on 1500s. I'm working on a mod for it, but I've not found time to do it. I have the camera, just got to get time.

I saw a YouTube video of guy Wilkes I think relocating his dually drvm camera on a pedestal mount, on top of his camper shell. Not exactly the look I was going for but he did accomplish the end goal.
He said that he searched for the camera by the part numbers printed on it and it seemed to be a universal automotive camera.
I was thinking about moving my CMBL ( cab mounted brake light) to the rear of the camper shell and buy a lower model brake light to fit in the rear of the cab. I don’t want the camper shell to hit the cmbl.
This is strongly dependent upon what and how much the bodyman says the camper shell surgery will cost.
