Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a Tazer DT for my 2023 Ram 1500 Big Horn Night Edition which has the 12" Uconnect5 system. The current Tazer DT firmware version is 18.2.6.

I want to use it primarily for:
  • PIN Code lock
  • Disable Auto Stop/Start
  • Automatic Fold Side Mirrors
I've been reading that there are some issues the Tazer DT has with 2022 and 2023 Rams.
Have all the issues been resolved with the 18.2.6 firmware?

I am currently using my old charger tazer with the DT software, and so far everything seems fine on my truck.
I cant say much to the auto mirrors, cause i turned that off. I was thinking in my head, open\shut\open\shut.... daily. sounds like broken mirrors at some point. I just use the button if i am parking in a tight spot, but that's me.

I think they got the bugs out for the 2022 and newer.

I did. I did not marry it to my truck. I'm not using the PIN Code lock function. Just KillByFob, AmberDRL, and FoldMirror. I've heard too many scary stories about having both 1) marry, and 2) PIN Code enable.

I updated to the latest firmware first. After I made my settings, I shutoff the engine and started the engine again and it threw a CEL with a DTC code "Cruise Control Unavailable at Low Speed" on the EVIC. I cleared the DTC code and after 2 engine shutoffs and 2 engine starts, I haven't seen the CEL so far. I suspect I got the CEL because Tazer uses the Left+CruiseControl button to make menu selections and the button state of CC must have been On when I shutoff the engine and started it again. I dunno. If it throws a CEL again, I'm gonna remove the Tazer and sell it. So far what I'm using is working: KillByFob, AmberDRL, and FoldMirror.

I hope it works for you I know 2022 and newer had some issues and I think they worked them out. Our truck is a 2021 and works great lately I haven't married my Tazer because I use mostly all live settings Pin Code, Amber DRL's, Engine start stop, and the pulse for the 3rd brake light. I used to use the folding mirrors but we went to Colorado and one of my mirrors froze in the folded position LOL.
OK Good Luck

Just added tazer dt to my 2023 limited 1500, only issue I am seeing is the camera getting stuck on, either with the turn signal method, or the mapped button.

I have had the tazer on my jeep but don't remember this being a feature, anyone else seeing this?

Ideally the turn signal camera would give you options for a time out, or continuous. With AA you lose your maps guidance, but factory nav still available in hud or cluster.

I have only the following enabled:
  • Unmarried
  • KillByFob = Enabled
  • InMoNav = Enabled
  • AutoFold = Enabled
  • AmberDRL = Both
Today I noticed an error. Normally with KillByFob the truck honks twice when I ht the Lock button on the fob, first to confirm the truck is locked, second to confirm the pedal is killed. I only got one honk today. I hit the Lock button on the fob again and got the two honks as expected. The delay between the honks seems to vary some, sometimes it's 1 second between honks, sometimes 3-5 seconds.

I got a CEL again and DTC code today with my TazerDT installed. Scrolling through the DTC list:
  1. P2166 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor 'D' Maximum Stop Performance
  2. U0168 - Lost Communication With Vehicle Security Control Module
Looking at this thread here, it looks like U0168 is reported by another user with a TazerDT, looks like it has to do with the SGW being unplugged. And P2166 is probably related to the TazerDT KillByFob function that kills the gas pedal.

I don't know why I have this buggy TazerDT thing in my truck still, I guess I like the idea of the KillByFob function.

I got this reply from Z Automotive this morning re: the U0168 DTC code:

Z Automotive said:
This can happen when the Tazer DT is connected to the security gateway and should go away after a few key cycles.

So I guess it's normal.

I think Z Automotive should be putting this information in their documentation or at least a FAQ that it's normal for the TazerDT to trigger the CEL with certain DTC codes. Hopefully in future firmware updates they can fix it so it doesn't do this.

Lol, not always!

I was thinking how much simpler my old 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 was. I didn't have to worry about all the neato-torpedo electronic stuff throwing CEL and having to do extra things to improve security. It just was a truck you got into and turned the key and drove without thinking twice. And I didn't have any security besides the factory alarm because who wants to steal a rusty 17 year old dually truck. The Cummins diesel was a workhorse and had a lot of life left. I would have kept the truck if the frame and body were not so rusted. The frame had massive rust holes and the body was peeling away in sheets of rust. It was time to let it go but it was a great truck.

Now with my 2023 Ram 1500, the CarLock can't figure out if it should be armed or disarmed and half the time it triggers a loud alarm on my phone and I have to open an app to turn it off, I have to flip a kill switch to enable the pushbutton Start/Stop button, and I'm staring at the EVIC waiting for the TazerDT to throw another CEL as I push the brake and hit the Start button.

Ya I had a 07 Ram what a difference like night and day ! I had a street rod just before this truck and it was almost as much fun as the truck.

I know that the InMoNav on UConnect 5 has issues. I emailed TAZER and they said they are having issues on UC5 and look for the next firmware as they are working on it. Other than that no issues.

I got another CEL and a couple more DTC codes today with the TazerDT.
  1. P2166 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor 'D' Maximum Stop Performance
  2. U103C-00 - Keyless Ignition Node Communication
I messaged Z Automotive about these, they replied about the P2166 code:

Z Automotive said:
Yep, that's just from the pedal getting disabled with the pin lock features. It also goes away after some driving

Z Automotive replied about the U103C-00 code to my question, "Is this another normal TazerDT code?":

Z Automotive said:
Generally no, haven't heard of that one

I'm a bit worried about the U103C-00 code because it's under the DTC RFH (RF Hub?). God help me if my RF Hub is damaged!!! But all seems to be normal. Looking further into the U103C code:

Web search said:
"The U103C-00 is a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) specific to the Dodge RAM vehicle. It indicates a problem with the Keyless Ignition Node Communication circuit, specifically a short to ground or an open circuit on the Security Keyless Line Communication circuit."

Ah, maybe because I have a kill switch on the Start/Stop button (edit: AND started the truck with Remote Start from the key fob). That's my guess.

The truck starts and stops just fine, remote start works just fine, key fob lock/unlock works just fine. Everything seems to work normally.

Do ya'all think the kill switch (edit: AND using Remote Start from the key fob) could be the reason for the U103C-00?

Got a follow-up reply from Z Automotive re: the U103C-00 code.

Z Automotive said:
My bad, I was reading the wrong version of that code [U103C-00] from a different vehicle. That's also related to the kill switch
You'll drive yourself crazy if you just keep reading the codes over and over again right after starting the vehicle while using live features of the Tazer. Try after 20 minutes of driving to ensure all of these types of codes clear
We're tricking the computer to make these things happen, so some codes are expected and most of them don't throw any kind of dash error

Not sure what "also related" means, but it sounds like having the TazerDT and a kill switch both ("also related"?) may trigger the CEL and throw the U103C-00 code.

One thing I have to say about Z Automotive: they are giving good communication with support and aren't making excuses or dismissing my questions. They are owning up to the fact the CEL will be triggered and DTC codes will be thrown with the TazerDT and it's expected.
