I made another post in a different section in regards to upgrading from halogen to LED headlamps on a 2021 ram 1500. There is a lot of talk that I need to use the alpha old software to change settings to the computer. So besides the alpha old software what else will I need? Will I need a SGW bypass? If so what is a good one? Will I also need an OBD interface module such as OBDLINK MX+? I tried searching the forums for the answers to my questions but unfortunately I didn't have much luck.

Thanks in advance for info and advice!

Yes, you need the interface (OBDLINK MX+, or something similar), and a SGW bypass (if you run a Tazer, that will also act as the bypass). Other than that, you just need a device to run AlfaOBD (laptop, or an Android device I believe).

Thanks for the quick reply. What would be a good cost effective SGW Bypass?

Have you tried search? There's tons of post on here about it already. Also, it's AlfaOBD and not alpha. That might help in your search.

If I understand this correctly, the bypass cable creates a "new" OB port and the Tazer/SGW module allows use of the existing OB port for vehicle access?

To jump in this conversation... Am I right to assume this wont work on MacOS?

I had to have a state emissions & safety inspection on my truck yesterday. I had forgotten that I had a Exctool Security Bypass Cable installed along with an extension / adapter to allow connection to the OBDII connector in the bypass cable to 2 other OBDII connected devices - an MX+ scanner (for AlphaOBD) and a Verizon Hum device for WiFi. The factory OBDII connector under the dash was available. The inspection tech was UNABLE to scan my truck's computer. When it was brought to my attention - I remembered the cable. I removed the bypass cable and reconnected the truck's wiring harness directly into the security module and everything worked. I seem to recall reading here that this bypass could be left connected without any issues; but I wonder if the devices I had connected interfered with the tech's scanner.
