Air Lift 5000 Airbags on a Rebel

maybe we can get pics of rebels vs non rebel mounting brackets and compare
That could be helpful, especially if we can see enough detail. Too bad we can't get hold of drawings.

one quick note, I do not know if I have the internal bump stops or not. It was installed by the previous owner.
True. Mine definitely got better without the internal bumpstops. Probably a bigger difference from when I later added the 1" spring spacer.

also i heard spacers on the rear mess with suspension badly

alot of people have said that on the rebel with spacers the truck bounces alot. more and doesnt feel as planted … read this on alot of stuff on these pages i will search see if i find the threads

Damn I had the same Air Lift bags on my 2014 Ram 2500 and they worked great. My Step-Dad had them on his Rebel and talked about them being a little more difficult to install. I just got a Rebel last year and after towing a heavy load this past weekend I realized I need to get some bags on this one. I was hoping they had resolved the cutting in the installation of the bags, but guess not. Did you get the 1000s installed or did you go with another brand?

Nope, I haven't swapped them out yet. I'm really fed up with them so I will likely remove the entire system soon. I may end up just going with a load distribution hitch instead because I have yet to see an air bag system that I'm confident won't have the same (or worse) problem.

Just got my Timber Grove bags in today. Plan on installing them this weekend.

please post during and after install. Im really wanting to add these to my 2020. I have an oversized Knaak box in the bed full time. the added load is 600-1000# depending on what i have in the bed at any given time. Id like to get the back end above level again

Hi Tommy R, sorry for bringing up this old old Thread… but I have a 2023 Ram Rebel and have just installed the AirLift 5000 Ultimate system on my truck. The new mounting plates DO have the additional slot you recommended, but the ride I have now sounds just like the trouble that you have had with yours…. Bottoming out almost immediately over small bumps… It’s ruined the stock ride on my truck!!
What did you do after to correct the ride on your Rebel? Did you fix the Airlift 5000 setup, or just abandon them for the 1000HD coil spring bags?

Thanks!

Fwiw you could always look at cargomax springs. The progressive rate springs ride like stock and give the extra capacity it seems folks are after. I have a set of the 893HDs in mine (bighorn none orp) and i love them. Made a WORLD of difference towing.

I've got a bit of an update on the Airlift 5000 airbags again. I again got tired of the bottoming out when running the minimum 5 psi. Simply put, the compressed height of the airbags are too tall and limit bump travel. And it sucks. I can add more pressure, but then it rides really poorly. I opted to put a 1" spring spacer in the rear in order to give the rear suspension a bit more travel before the bags fully compress.

Again, it's better, but still not acceptable. I'm really frustrated with this and am now looking to get rid of the 5000s altogether. I may opt for a bag that fits within the coils (like the 1000 bags) instead of the 5000s. The 1000s should be okay for my needs. It sucks that I would need to pay for them since the first bags I bought SHOULD have worked properly. And of course now I'll have to weld back the OEM bumpstops that I cut off when I did the install.

As of now, I don't know what solution I'll pursue, but I absolutely would not recommend Airlift if you like the stock ride of your truck.

More updates coming...
Tommy
I have a 2023 Rebel with the 1000 air lift bags on it. Excellent ride even on our gravel road that has horrible washboards. Put 35 psi in them to move a camper around and the ride hight was good, not much squat for a 500.
