After market remote start.

I’ve been using the Start-X module for over a year now without any issues. For this specific model (not sure if it’s the same for all), when starting the truck remotely, you must follow a specific sequence when entering:
1. Open the driver’s door.
2. Enter and close the door.
3. Press and release the brake.

If you don’t follow these steps exactly, the truck shuts off, and you have to restart the process.

Last Saturday, I got distracted and didn’t follow the correct steps, so the truck shut off as expected. However, when I tried to start it manually, it kind of glitched, the starter kept cranking for several seconds without success until I manually stopped it. I then turned everything off, opened and closed the door, and after that, it started normally.

But at that moment, I noticed that the Engine Check/Malfunction Indicator Warning Light stayed on and hasn’t gone away since.

Could this be related, or is it just a coincidence and there is another issue? Any suggestions on what I could try? I was thinking about disconnecting the battery to reset the system. Or should I take it directly to the shop for a check-up?

My advice: If you don't have access to an obd scanner, stop in your local Auto Zone, and have them scan it. I suspect it will be most likely a communication or battery related code if it is related to your starting mishap. Any other codes would probably point to another unrelated issue. You could also just disconnect the battery for a few minutes, just be aware that it may take minutes or hours for all of your electronics to come back on line.
