What's the issue with pulling sleds on an open trailer? Just getting covered in snow/ice?

I would say the worst part is, on the WAY to a trip somewhere, if the roads are crap, you show up at your destination ready to ride, and your sled is covered in crap! Yes, even with a cover on it. Not as bad, but the dirty salt water still leaks through.

I'll be experiencing road salt for the first time in almost 30 years. Not thrilled about this whole winter thing but but some in-law health issues related making the move necessary. I'll do my best trying to copy what bears do...... Hibernate. At least I'm not working anymore so when the snow flies, I'll just go out and keep the walk and driveway clear and call it quits.
My Jeep will become the bad weather "beater" and the Ram will stay put. I will organize the new garage to actually house 3 vehicles. Ram, Corvette and Camaro. The Jeep gets the short straw

I have the 3.92 Laramie Sport Crew, 4x4, etorque. Mid, West, and Upper Peninsula of MI trips (good size rolling hills and some flat farmland, highway speeds around 65-75). Update-I run 87 octane, no brand specific. I had my first oil change done at dealer with Pennzoil Platinum synthetic 5w20 (68247836aa) at 6,200 and I initially calculated the first 5 fill ups with fuelly/gas buddy, which both jived with the computer.

First pic is trip pulling Honda Pioneer 1000-5 on 6x12 open aluminum trailer north from house into higher elevations.

Second pic is going North to Marquette, MI with 2 kayaks in back with tailgate up and Tonneau open. Heading into higher elevation and generally a 5-15 mph westerly (drivers side) headwinds.

3rd pic is heading south from Marquette back home with same kayaks, but tailgate down and Tonneau closed. Heading into lower elevations with mostly tailwinds generally 5-15mph, hitting passenger side.

All in all, not much difference from my 2014 Silverado Z71. Ram pulls better and rides smoother.

Here's where I'm at for total:

Got a big out West trip (MI to SD) coming up end of August-trailering Pioneer and two Harley cruises in my 25' enclosed. Will follow up with that trips as it unfolds.

Update: Honda Pioneer 1000-5, 2 dressers in my 27' enclosed trailer ~7,500#, Kalamazoo, Michigan to Rapid City, South Dakota...not too shabby...

Tooling around SE Michigan. Some interstate, in town and 2 miles of creeping down a dirt road each way every time I go out.

So I don't have 6-7000 miles yet (1500 approx) but I thought I would share my first towing experience. 20 foot enclosed trailer with my classic car inside, approximately 7500-7800lbs towing. On the NY Through Way which is mostly hills up and down, staying at mostly 65mph I averaged 9.8 mpg...which is pretty close to my last 2017 Ram. But this one even with the off road package the ride was nicer and the truck didn't squat as much.
And on a side note...I ran 87 octane on the way up and 89 octane on the way home and got the same mileage and didn't feel any performance loss/gain. I typically run 87 all the time but like to use 89 for towing but filled up in error with the 87 before we left.

On average I'm getting 14mpg all round and my trip is almost exact when comparing to hand calculations.

I'm going to be driving to my home in Florida tomorrow to see how it survived Dorian. Looks like everything is ok as the house is about 25 miles off the Atlantic coast west of New Smyrna Beach. I'll take off about 2AM in order to miss Cincinnati/Dayton traffic and then I just have to deal with Atlanta. Avoiding the I-26/I-95 route because of the storm and taking I-75 all the way to Ocala. It'll be straight through only pit stops. I'll be limit plus 8 mph as much as possible. It'll be interesting to see if the mpg climbs to 22 or stays in the 21's on the LOM.

I'm typically getting 17-18mpg day to day mixed miles, and long road trips tend to be around 20.5-21mpg.

Pretty good considering i've added an extra 80# to the front with a second battery, and a few heavy accessories to the back.

I usually run 87 gas, but every 7-8 tanks I will use 91 to hit it with the DCA detergent additives.

I looked at the LOM when I filled up in Georgia yesterday. 22.1 mpg and the range was showing 718 miles to empty.

How long have you had the Vararam on there? How did your mileage compare before and after that install?

I put it on immediately, within the first 200 miles. It was too new to get an accurate MPG read on a new motor.

Grabbed some MPG data today leaving the racetrack heading back home with wife and son. Truck is stock and going to use these numbers to see differences when new wheels and mopar 2" installed. Details: not loaded besides 400lb of passengers, using 89 octane, 3.92 gears and just over 6k miles now. Using cruise control on Not the flattest highway in FL but decent for test. I didnt reset trip meter til mpg leveled out and flat highway ahead. Weather said 0mph wind tonight 90% humidity. Cant wait til it cools down!

These are my trucks legit stock 3.92 etorque MPG according to trip meter I got today. Just me in the truck, empty bed. Stock 20" rims on stock tires , no ORG package, truck has stationary running boards(may give some wind resistance along with tow mirrors). Ran 65mph for 10miles unimpeded on cruise control and clocked 20.2mpg it wasnt flaculating more than .2 in each direction. Heading east with winds 10mph south
Ran unimpeded at 70mph on way back home for 15miles straight! 5mph south winds going west. Logged 18.3mpg. No traffic or drafting either way both directions no braking or passing either! Pics of wind speed and direction. It felt like I was going into a headwind on ride home at 70 but weather report said south
