Hey all,

I picked up a 2022 limited with the diamond metallic black paint back in February and have recently got around to doing a full polish and ceramic coat. Turned out fantastic, next to no swirls left, love it. However, while spending so much time staring at the paint close up, I noticed a sort of haziness, almost like foggy water under the paint on a couple panels (I had seen it faintly before polishing but figured it’d come out later). Polishing didn’t do anything for these, and I didn’t intend on hitting things too hard, as I’d like to leave as much clear on it as possible. From what I could tell, it likely had never been polished before.

Anyways, has anyone else experienced this? ChatGPT mentioned that stellantis is aware of the ram clearcoat issues, I just can’t track down exactly what it is. I assume I’m stuck with it but would just like to know what’s going on.

My '21 Red didn't seem to be a brilliant red when I bought it. I decided to clay it and prep for detailing, but the clay actually acting like sandpaper and caused marring all over.

Because of that, I was forced to compound and polish. The paint looks fantastic and a deep brilliant red now after using a wool pad, medium cut compound and polish.

You won't polish it out, if I think that it is what it is.

There is some moisture behind clear coat creating haze. To prove the theory, heat the spot. Use a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting and far away from the panel. If the haze disappears, you're dealing with water vapor/moisture.

How and why does this happen? Usually, it may happen when you have something on the panel that prevents moisture from escaping. For example, a cover cover that clings to the panel or a plastic bag or a rubber truck bed rug. If you try to get the haze out, you'll burn through the clear coat and see more issues.
