4 wheel drive auto

You would be lucky to loose a 1/2 mpg . My average never changed when I tried it in my first auto 4wd transfer case in a 08.
 
As the front axle is engaged, there are more moving parts, friction, centrifugal force energy, etc. I’m no engineer, but I’d say that’s it’s probably around 1/4 gallon +/-. Also, it’s not going to be as effective or efficient as a true AWD vehicle, which is understandable, but certainly a useful option.
