That’s good to hear, thanks for the update!
So you did not remove the “foam” seal? And where where you leaking before applying the marine seal? I’m leaking at the top corner. Please let me know.Yup. That’s what I used. I applied it over the factory seal. Just tighten all four screws gently and u should be fine.
Where were you getting your leak before changed the gasket?Same here, scraped off the old foam gasket then used Goo Gone to clean it up. Like others have said it takes some time but its worth doing it right.
That’s what I did! No leaks since!Just buy a roll of Butyl Tape. throw the gaskets away.
Butyl tape for the win!Just get a roll of butyl tape and forget it ever leaking forever. Remove the light, throw away the gaskets and lay a strip around the perimeter. put the light fixture back on and tighten it down until it just smooshes all around. Use a plastic putty knife and cut the excess by pressing. not like cutting a steak, do not drag.
Is that gasket spongy like it would absorb water? Looks like it only goes around the top of the housing?Has anyone taken pictures of the brake light, I just bought a 2022 and it seems pretty secure and sealed to me. It has probably been redesigned.
Looks like they added a secondary gasket which runs over the top half of the main gasket. Wonder when they did that? I don't want to remove the CHMSL on my '21 to see if has that second gasket too. It's not leaking now, and I'm concerned that if might start leaking if I "break the factory seal".Has anyone taken pictures of the brake light, I just bought a 2022 and it seems pretty secure and sealed to me. I purchased the "new" version on April 2, 2021. I believe that I was an early adopter. Best I can do as far as time line.Looks like they added a secondary gasket which runs over the top half of the main gasket. Wonder when they did that? The upper seal is soft and spongy but looks to be water tight on the sides like a closed cell foamIs that gasket spongy like it would absorb water? Looks like it only goes around the top of the housing?
I’m about to try this. It sounds like the seam doesn’t cause a problem, I’m going to put the seam where the two ends meet at the bottom. Your using the putty knife to cut it to length so the seam has a clean cut I assume?Just get a roll of butyl tape and forget it ever leaking forever. What year is your truck? The gasket was redesigned, and the ones that weren't now have an extended warranty. This is an old thread, from people with the old design. You may have the new design, but if not it's a covered repair.I’m about to try this. It sounds like the seam doesn’t cause a problem, I’m going to put the seam where the two ends meet at the bottom. 2019 so pretty sure I don’t have the new design. Thanks for the info I will call the dealership. Been dry for months in Texas and then we got 5” in 2 days. A little bit of water coming down near the sliding window. What year is your truck? The gasket was redesigned, and the ones that weren't now have an extended warranty. I did some research and everything I found did from truck owners did say there is a warranty but a lot of them mention in Canada. I’ll try and track it down on Mopars site. Either way I will call them. What year is your truck? The gasket was redesigned, and the ones that weren't now have an extended warranty. This is an old thread, from people with the old design. Stelantis issues a TSB with extended warranty for 19-20 Rams on the third brake light and rear window for water leaks. Your dealer should be able to look it up. There is a whole thread on here specifically about the extended warranty.I did some research and everything I found did from truck owners did say there is a warranty but a lot of them mention in Canada.
