I’ve done a ton of research regarding replacement tires for the factory 22 inch rims. After much debate I pulled the trigger on a set of Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 33x12.50R22. I just had them installed and I’m here to tell you they fit without any clearance issues with the control arm. There is a slight rub at full lock in reverse on the inner fender liner. This was a super easy fix by pushing it back and out of the way. Here are some pictures that may help anyone else looking to up grade their tires.

Looks nice!! (y)

Same with Toyo 305/45/22 no issues that a slight wheel well trim could not fix.

Gruy7th,

Beautiful! How'd you decide on the Boss ATs? They do look bad ***! How's the noise?

Rmazzei,

Thanks for the Toyo post - looks great and I'm sort of leaning that way so its great for comparison!

I went with the Boos because it has the 3peak rating, the rubber compound is just as good in cold weather, and I like the aggressive look. I watched a YouTube video posted by TrailBuilt Off-road that made it an easy decision. It’s actually super quite at highway speed.

Just when I thought I came to a decision, someone has to add another option.

I had it down to the Toyos, but now I need to look at the Mickey Thompson tires.

I think you should give them a serious look. I think you may switch.

I put a video together so everyone can see the process and road noise

Thanks for the additional information.

Another question: Do the tires extend outside of the rim enough t avoid "scraping" the rims on the sidewalk curb?

It does offer protection from the curb. Here are some pictures I just took so you can see

I think you just convinced me to go this route over the AT3s I was dead set on getting. Thanks for the post and all the additional info!

No problem, I know how it is trying to gather information.

No problem and I think you will like the MTs
what is the tread warrantee on the MTs? The AT3 have 70K which tells you that they are expected to last and should get get 40-50K out of them. By contrast the Nitto have no tread life warrantee at all and from what i have read they tend not to last very long

Its 50k on the M/Ts

They have a 50,000 mile tread wear warranty from MT. I purchased them at discount tire and got their protection plan as well. It pretty much coves anything that can go wrong with your tires. Also if you purchase tires from them you get free tire rotation and balance on any vehicle you own, not just the one you purchased tires for.

my biggest worry when going to 35/12.5R20 was the width and control arm the math says it should fit with a stock wheel on a mild lift glad the 12.5 fit with out to much issue

The 12.5 width clears the control arm with no issue. I believe if you went with a 35 you would need the level links, spacer, or lift. There are a few videos on YouTube where people fit 35s with just the links. This is one video
