275/60 or 285/60

I have Fuel Variant 20x9-1mm wheels coming tomorrow.

I'm struggling with the 275/60R20 vs 285/60R20 debate also.

My OEM Laramie w/t pkg weighs ~72lbs.

If I go with 275/60R20 Firestone Destination AT2s or Bridgestone Dueler Ascent ATs the weight would still be 72lbs (4lbs heavier tire, 4lbs lighter wheel).

If I go with 285/60R20 Bridgestone Dueler Ascent ATs the weight would be 84lbs..and I'm really having a tough time with the extra 12lbs!

My Eibachs work VERY well currently with my OEM pkg, and the 275/60R20s should be no different, but the heavier 285s make me fret that the Eibachs would not be up to the task and then the pricey Fox 2.5 PEs will tap me for another 4g to get my ride comfort back (actually improve it..if I'm honest).

My 3.92 converts to 3.79 (275/60) or 3.74 (285/60), so not much difference there.

The 285 vs 275 is 0.5" wider & taller, so not big difference there either...although looking at previous posts/comparisons..the 285/Leveled looks SO MUCH TOUGHER!

Any thoughts and suggestions??

One thing I know for sure, my current OEM Bridgestones look dinky!!20240909_140711.jpgScreenshot_20250522-125011_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20250130-072446_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20250523-081441_Samsung Internet.jpg

If it was me, I'd go with the 285s. While the 275s will fill the space better than the stock, the 285s will look like they belong there. The Cooper/Fuel setup I run currently weighs 83 lbs, and the ride is so much better than the 22s my truck came with. Even on my last Ram, going from the stock 275/55/20s to this setup, the ride quality was not compromised. My .02

Thanks for that advice!

This morning, I was back to the 275/60s to keep it simple and same weight..now I'm leaning back to the 285/60s.

I know the 285s will have a more satisfying look! The tread is 16/32 compared to 12/32 on 275/60s or 11/32 on 275/55s..in theory, more rubber should mean more compliant with bumps(good)..but also more roll in corners(bad).

Price is a slight factor..~$1100 for 275s and ~$1800 for 285s.

I AM thinking the 285s at 84lbs could be a good gateway transition to hefty 95lb BFG KO3 35x12.5R20s in the future..especially if I were to up my game to Fox 2.5 PEs at some point..YES, even more $$$.

Truth be told, after getting Wifey-pooh her '24 Durango SRT392 AlcHEMI last October, my Ram only put on ~1700 miles, so MPG, ride perfection, etc can take a back seat to looks somewhat now.

Pulled the trigger on 285/60R20 Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascents today..they'll be here on Thursday, the 285s do like the part best. Guess 84lbs wins out on looks!!

I had a set back on the Fuel Variant 20x9 wheels.

I had them color match painted to Granite Crystal Metallic (PAU) and the painter ran the clear horribly on all four rims.

Had to have them chemically dipped/stripped to start over.

Now, having them Powdercoated/CC'd in Prismatic Powder's color match Granite Crystal Metallic base (PMB-11626) and Clear Vision topcoat by Chris Mamay at Southern Style 4x4 in South Beloit, WI. They are going to mount and road force balance the Bridgestones for me also.

I still have to have the OEM Mopar Fender Flares painted and then install them (3M tape, instead of push pins, since my '24 Laramie doesn't have the holes).

I'm strongly leaning towards swapping my Eibach Stage1 leveled set up for Eibach Stage-2R leveled + 1" (F/R) to improve the ride with these heavier LT tires (+12lbs). I would love to go with Fox PE 2.5s, but the paint fiasco blew a $2000 hole in my budget and the Stage-2Rs are 2g cheaper.

Will get pics of truck and impressions of new tires once completed next week.20250620_120142.jpg20250609_121733.jpg

Those wheels look good in that color, they should look good on your truck. I'm assuming you were proactive with the offset to match the depth of the flares once installed? I've also been considering the Eibach Stage 2, just not the "R', since mine spends most of its time on the road. How did that Stage 1 treat you? Positives, shortcomings?

Yep, I'm currently flush sidewall to fender lip front..and rear..with a 6mm Bora spacer.

The Fuel Variant is +1mm offset, so out 0.71" compared to stock at +19mm.

The OEM Fender Flares will add 0.75" extra fender width.

A 285/60R20 on the +1mm offset gives a total of 0.91" extra width, so minus the 0.75" flare, the tire sidewall will poke by 0.16" and the tread crown will actually be inside the flare.

I've seen some 285 tires with narrow crowns that "look" flush even without the OEM flares.

The Eibach Pro-Truck Stage1s are actually pretty good..on decent roads, but do lack it bit on choppy bumps because of the digressive valving. The Stage-2R have linear style valving which tend to be softer riding..and should help offset the stiffer LT tire and extra 14lbs of the Ascent 285/60s.

Maybe my current Eibach setup won't be too bad..I'll be forced to try for a while at least, since the painter set me back the $$$ needed for the Stage-2R or Fox PEs.

I'll post pics with the Fuels(+1mm) and 285s..without the flares as soon as they’re on the truck.

Once I get the flares painted and mounted, I'll get pics of that also.

Of course, feedback on the overall feelings of the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascents will be posted also.

I just recently went PC OEM color Maximum Steel Metallic, but went 285/65. I love the OEM matched wheels!!View attachment 202630
Color match looks awesome, love it! I couldn't talk myself into the taller 65, but maybe next time around (especially if I swap to Fox2.5s like you, or Eibach Stage-2Rs)👍

BTW, I did grad school in Chicago in late 80s. I live in Eagle/Mukwonago about a half hour north of Lake Geneva (Chicagoans usually know LG🤣)

I didn't want a full on 35X12.5, so this was the next best and I've definitely been to LG many times by vehicle or 2 wheels many times. Great riding up that way for sure.

I almost went Eibach Stage 2R, but bit the bullet for FOX. Wallet hated me lol

Eagle is in South Kettle Moraine area of Wisco..40+% of our land is State, County, or Conservancy preserved! And, we have hills, valleys, curves..perfect for fun drives & rides! Come on up, I'll show you the sites.

Kettle Moraine has some great riding for sure. That was back in my younger years and sportbikes. I did a trip around the lake with my father a couple years ago. He had never been, so it was great quality time.
