275 55/20 Ridge grapplers on 20" OE wheels

Is everyone from this thread still happy with the 275/60/20 ridge grapplers? Ride is still nice and smooth? How's the gas mileage been affected? Would any of you want to have gone any bigger? Im thinking about the same size myself or maybe the wider 305/55/20? Any comments. Thanks.

I still love mine! There really wasn’t a change I could detect in the ride quality or smoothness. There is a very slight amount of additional humming/road noise coming from the tire but the truck is so quiet it’s only detectable at low speeds with the radio off.

I am seeing a negligible change to my gas mileage so far. I am getting 16.39mpg (through 5 fill-ups) after the tires and was getting 16.60mpg prior to the new tires). I only have 3,700 miles on the truck so I expect this to continue to improve.

I would have liked to go with the 275/65 (34”) tire for the larger size and sidewall but I did not want to go with 10-ply E-rating which would kill the ride quality and gas mileage. I think the XL rating is perfect on a 1/2 ton truck and was the main reason I went with the slightly smaller 275/60. For this reason, I wouldn’t go with the wider tires either, especially given their extra cost.

I went from stock 275/55/20 tires to the same size Ridge grapplers. I really like them. I do feel like I dropped about 1.5 mpg, mostly on the highway side. The truck was very new when I made the switch so my MPG info was limited but I can confidently say I dropped 1.5 or so. Road noise is a slight hum, definitely not as whisper quite as stock but not bad at all. Ride is fine, no change to the negative. Personally I think you are overpaying for tires going wider. Taller is hard to argue but wider I don't see a huge benefit on width. . Mine look wide to me at only 275's

I’m really enjoying my RG’s. Definitely some extra road noise at highway. But for me coming down from 22’s to 30’s I’m not seeing anything negative on mpgs

Have 275/60s and the tires are as smooth as stock with a better look. No road noise that I have experienced. Truck seems more planted in turns even though the width of tire is same as stock. No regrets.

There is definitely a difference in road noise from stock tires, but that's because of the tread difference. Any more aggressive AT tire will hum more than stockers, but nothing like true mud tires. I love the look of mine and the size is perfect. It's the size these trucks should come stock with. It doesn't look 'stuffed' but definitely looks meatier than stock. They take the road bumps so much better than stockers as well. That was the most noticeable difference for me! A great one.

I just got my Ridge Grapplers installed today...got them at 285/50/20 XL. I wanted them just a little wider so i risked it and went with the 285's, and there is no rubbing inside the wheel well. These tires are on STOCK SUSPENSION, and I also have 2 inch spacers installed. Here are some pics....Cars dirty but i had to.

35/12.50/20 with 3.21 gears freeway 16.7 mpg at 70mph in town 15mpg super smooth with these nitto ridge grapplers. Also have 2.5 level kit rc

Hard to answer a lot of it is personal preference, like Xbox to Playstation. generally it seems if you want A/T that aren't super aggressive then Duratracks, Wildpeaks, Grapplers, and Ko2's are some of the most recommended. There are several others but those seem to be the most popular I have seen. I went with Ultraterrains for the cost and they seem to be pretty much rebranded Duratracks that discount tire sells as exclusive. Just like years ago when Wildpeaks came available they had Rocky Mountains which were the same exact tire but just exclusive to their shops.

I see a mpg difference of 0.3 and 1.5, which is a pretty big difference. Can some others who’ve done pencil and paper method confirm the mpg loss from either the 275/60/20 or 275/55/20?

Think it really depends on the tire too. If I remember correctly wildpeaks 275/60 are still 50+ lbs each while stock and other tires are around 40ish lbs and maybe even lower. That was one of the biggest deciding factors for me was preserving gas mileage and went with a lighter tire.

There should be no difference in MPG based on the two tire sizes you mentioned. All that changed was a very small amount in the height of the side wall.

If you are looking at the same manufacturer, then the size difference you stated above will have no impact. If you are looking at different manufacturers, tread can make a huge difference in efficiency. You were not clear enough in your last post. Even with that being said, if you pick a tire that you like, going from a 55 to a 60 will not have an impact on MPG.

I’m going to bow out at this point, but my question remained in line with the original post on comparing the stock sport 275/55/20s to an all terrain of the same size or 60 aspect ratio.
