2026 HEMI or Hurricane?

I vote Hurricane ..... and for italian dimensions is better
I'm joking, of course!

Your truck must be quite the sight in Italy! I bet you never see another one on the road. That would be fun.

As someone who just bought a Laramie with the Hurricane, but test drove both…Hurricane all the way. I thought for sure I’d like the Hemi more but the Hurricane is so much quicker, smoother, quiet. Only benefit of the Hemi I saw was of course the noise it makes.

Not exactly like that. Among the few new pickup trucks sold in Italy, there are many RAMs.
The second-hand market, on the other hand, is currently more exploited (also because a RAM new costs at least 100k Euro including taxes).
At the moment I haven't crossed any Hurricane yet (so not even a Rebel X my2025) but this is my second RAM, the previous one was a Limited my2022 ETorque.
@rylock21, me too.... I prefer the 6 cil, the only unpleasant aspect is that the Rebel X version consumes at least 7% more than the Hemi (I don't know about the other Hurricanes) but pneus and ground clearance makes a difference in gas consumption.

I heard an RHO the other day. He was merging into my lane on the highway and he gave it a bit of gas to get up to speed. The sound that thing made was embarrassing.

V8 all day for me.

Imagine feeling embarrassed for someone who owns a truck that will run circles around yours all day long. Just because it doesn't make the sound you want it to.

Why would you even bother typing that for something someone else decided wthey wanted, that has no impact on your whatsoever

Yea, idk. On one hand you have that V8 muscle sound, but on the other hand...if I got the Hurricane, I dont think I'd want it loud at all. So overall, the sound doesnt really play a part in my engine choice. It would be a different story if I was building a muscle truck that was a single cab, 2wd, etc, etc. Goblin does have a point though...when it comes to a full on performance truck...I'd want it to sound like one.

I test drove both. Fully intended on buying a hemi. Ended up with hurricane. Not because I was rushed, because the truck is faster and feels better

The HEMI offers both V8 muscle and that performance truck sound without the muscle or the performance.

I've had both and I'm not gonna lie, the HEMI exhaust note is preferable but that's it. My 20 was stock and quiet and liked it that way. The hurricane is more quiet but better in every way; I got over the exhaust sound quickly. I wouldn't do a thing to make the hurricane truck louder.

Having owned an EcoBoost and having disabled the fake engine sound, I am convinced that it isn’t there to sound cool, but rather to mask some truly awful, but all natural, sounds.

I quickly turned it back on because the “real” noises were quite unpleasant.

The same seems to be true of my wife’s CX-90.

I've been looking for a new truck for around 6 months. I looked at and drove Tundras (3.4 V6 Twin Turbo), GM/Chevy 1500 (both 5.3 and 6.2) and the RAM 1500 Hemi and Hurricane. My daughter also had a 09 Durango with the 5.7 Hemi that I drove a lot. I have been driving the Toyota 5.7 V8 for 12 years and before that the Toyota 4.7 V8 for 11 years. Prior to that I drove numerous Chevys with assorted small block V8s. So needless to say I feel I have some experience and knowledge to make a somewhat educated decision on picking an engine.

Once I decided to go with the RAM there was no question the Hurricane was what I wanted. More HP and Torque than the Hemi and better fuel economy. New tech engine in every way compared to a Hemi. In addition the current Hemis are all eTorquer and MDS. My 20 Wrangler has 3.6 V6 with eTorque and I've had no issues with the eTorque system. MDS, pushrods and general old school tech and design sealed the fate of the Hemi. The only thing the Hemi had to offer was the nice V8 sound but I can live without that. Another factor was a 10/100 warranty on the Hurricane. I know, you can get it on the Hemi.

Who knows the long term durability of the Hurricane? Hasn't been around long enough to tell. At least it isn't self destructing like the Toyotas and GM/Chevys.

As an old man with a lot of experience and 40+ years of engineering work go with the Hurricane. Of course take my thoughts and opinions exactly for what they are, my view and perspective.

Depends on what you mean by performance. V8 muscle performance in a truck doesn't mean speed...it means long term reliable pulling power. I'd absolutely pick the Hurricane for my next Ram though, but I would still worry about the lack of port injection.

Why type of noises?
From the engine, cabin, significant other???

I appreciate how quiet and smooth the Hurricane is. The truck is an appliance which exists primarily to haul and tow, comfort and daily livability is a close second.
The last thing I need from this truck is an annoying exhaust noise and droning at 70 mph.
Pretending that a 5000# vehicle is some kind of performance vehicle is only valid if the only metric is acceleration.
Making a slow vehicle loud is like is sort of like that bodybuilder which can't compete with the wiry powerlifter.
Or the 1440cc open-piped Softtail which can't outrun the 750 Magna which sounds like a sewing machine.

From the engine, its sound under load was like a shrill, metallic shrieking blender, particularly offensive while towing.

It’s kind of amazing how the fake engine noise defeats it.

Especially considering my generation f150 didn’t have actual noise cancellation like the Rams do. It’s literally just a masking noise.

Performance in this scenario is power to weight as everything else in the trucks are the same or similar so in this instance, performance is indeed speed. The Hurricane has about 10K of towing capacity vs the HEMIs 11K which isn't a huge difference. If I regularly towing either of those weights, I'm getting a 2500. If I'm regularly towing 8K, I'm probably buying a 2500.

Im not worried about port injection, the truck has a warranty
