2025 brochure

The additional power will be awesome, but there will be one obvious downside. The exhaust will sound like a wet fart. Some will not care, but V8 enthusiasts will. There's a reason Ford pipes in fake exhaust sound into the cabin of their Raptors.

I'm not sure that's a real downside. I realize there are some who concern themselves with things like exhaust tone, but I believe they often have a highly exaggerated perception of how it will impress those around them. It's like the skeet shooter who is always looking to impress others with how clean and pretty their shotgun shell reloads are or the guy next to you at the gas pump looking to impress others with their thumping sub-woofer. In reality, almost no one is impressed by another person's exhaust tone. I doubt many watch a Tesla blow away a Hemi vehicle and walk away being impressed with the sound of the Hemi as it got stomped.

Eh. I bet that Tesla will look with longing and lustful eyes at my lowly v8 as I later blow by him pulling my trailer while he's parked on the shoulder rooting around for an extension cord.

I get it, some of you don't care about the exhaust note but many of us do. It completes the package, along with paint, rims, tires, and other mods like level or lift etc. You may as well say shiny paint doesn't matter. It does to some.

That's what makes the current Rams so lovable, it's the complete package. Power, looks, sound, capability, ride, comfort etc. There isn't anything really lacking, though I won't turn down more power.

But I won't go for more power at the expense of sound and reliability and linear/smooth performance. Sound we know is horrid on the new whizbangers, reliability and linear performance is yet to be determined.

I'm right there with you. I love the sound of a V8 and won't give it up .

the stock 5.7 also doesnt sound great... nice on cold start and good growl around 4000 rpm but other than that its pretty anonymous. On the highway its a big 4cyl, and at full throttle it sounds pretty strained.

I'm willing to trade a cold start sound for 150hp and the same fuel economy.

Pretty much everyone who has reviewed these disagree with that opinion, the hemi has a great sound and if it's too tame you can improve it. You're not improving a fart in a tin can.

Well I guess you absolutely need to reach 60 quicker than I do then. But you won't be reaching 60 quicker than me and getting the same fuel economy. When you dip into those turbos (because you have to to get that HP advantage over the hemi), you push in more air, and when you push in more air you absolutely need to push in more fuel so that the correct air-to-fuel ratio is maintained.

I just watched a 3.5 eco boost towing an enclosed cargo trailer last week and the mpg was atrocious, the worst by far this guy ever tested, way below the hemi and the 5.0 coyote. You guys are in for a shock if you want to tow with these.

Driving around normally and highway driving it will be fine, then if you want to go fast you can hit it and not get walked by every other truck. 540 hp in a half ton is nuts

Why do you need to get to the stoplight quicker than the next truck?

There will always be someone quicker than you, that is a fact. I couldn't care less, I'm just looking for a bit more power getting onto the freeway pulling my trailer or passing a semi up a hill.

And 540 hp is already limp wristed when you compare what's here already or will be within the same year or two: TRX, Raptor, Cybertruck, Lightning, Silverado EV, Hummer EV, Rivian, heck even the Charger; all those guys will eat your lunch so you're still driving around in a "weak truck". May as well enjoy the sound of a hemi.

More power is more fun... its not that hard to figure out. If you don't want more power you can buy a 3.6.

Electric is a different ball game- not practical for me but a decently quick gas truck is very appealing. If you want a v8 then go buy a gm, they are nice trucks and still have two v8 options.

I for one am excited to try out the new inline 6 trucks. Lots of people want more power... otherwise the upgrade engines for any vehicle would never sell.

A 3.6 sounds worse than both a hemi and a turbo. "Fun" isn't just getting to 60 fast, it's the entire experience and that v8 roar is a huge part of it to many people.

I probably will be moving to GM at some point, though part of me thinks Ram will bring in a v8 of some sort later on.

There are no wrong opinions here, but just don't try to write off the v8 as "underpowered" or that we who like them just want them to impress other people because that's silly. 400 hp is amazing if you think about how little we had 15+ years ago and somehow survived. It's only "not amazing" to those who need to be first to feel good about their purchase.

They also tuned the Raptors exhaust to actually sound better, which currently the Hurricane doesn't. They pipe sound into more than their Raptors as well, their 3.5L standard F150s for example.

yeaaaahhh my 1500 sounding like a BMW isn't something I look forward to.

Would love that, lots of I6 in my past, but for some reason, the Hurricane doesn't actually sound good, at least from the examples I've heard on Jeeps so far. Hoping they can do better on the RAMs somehow?

I do agree with this stentiment.
EV's have ruined the novelty of quickness for me, in all class of vehicles.
So the intangibles are what I am so interested in.

Much more interested in the "drive a slow car fast" mindset now.

That said if I did plan to do a lot of towing with a half ton, like I used to do before desk work, I would very much be (and have been, owning an EcoBoost) interested in these turbo motors. But thats a narrow window anymore - the one where an HD is too much but a NA Gas 1500 isn't enough.

You're fooling yourself if you think you'll be able to race with a twin turbo motor and get decent fuel economy...

Why do you need to get to the stoplight quicker than the next truck?

Why do you need to get to the stoplight louder than the next truck? I was right there with you 40 years ago then I figured out there was no real benefit to louder exhaust and it really impresses no one but the owner. Even those who would go out and put louder exhaust on their truck are not impressed by your exhaust because they they have the same thing and will always believe theirs sounds better anyway. At least with more HP and torque, you can more quickly and safely merge into heavy freeway traffic, pass faster to reduce your time in an opposing traffic lane and more comfortably tow a load.

Both right, as in performance and sound.

I came from a Ecoboost 2.7L in an F150 to my RAM. Honestly, that Ecoboost F150 was probably faster in most every metric compared to my RAM, but the sound my RAM produces, especially with an aftermarket exhaust, gives you a "sense of occasion" that a Honda Accord sounding V6 just can't do.

Sound it part of it, it's an important part of the motoring experience which is why car enthusiast are having a hard time with EVs in the sports car world, where the performance delta is even greater than comparing an old 5.7L vs I6TT. For many sports car guys, more fun driving an old Miata or E46 than some big power EV, part of that is the sound.

I was expecting the Hurricane, being an I6TT to sound more like a BMW or Nissan of similar configuration, but doesn't seem to be the case. If it did, I would be all in.

I hate obnoxiously loud exhaust on anything. Hell, I wouldn't mind if my truck was a little quieter, but that doesn't mean I want it to sound like a wet fart. You are confusing loud exhaust with good sounding exhaust. The low rumble of a V8 is much more appealing than the high pitched exhaust of a 4 or 6 cylinder engine.

This is not appealing to anyone...

This appeals to almost everyone....

Yup. As you know nothing sweeter than this sound…….

I like the 5.7 Hemi, stock sound is smooth and throughty when you get on it, at idle not so much. Sometimes hard to tell it's even running except after a cold start. That said looking forward to the inline 6. Would have been nice for Ram to offer both like Ford does although I still think they may have a new V8 in the works, need a entry level engine for the HD's it anything.
