2021 eco diesel gas mileage

Did a 6+hr highway trip yesterday and my gauge was reading over 30mpg in my Rebel for most of it. Hand calc on filling was 29.4mpg, 7.995L/100km. Trip had a few 12% hills for 15km, uphill on the way there, downhill on the way back, no wind and 26C out. Speed between 100 and 120km/h (60 and 75mph). Truck was more efficient in eighth at 120/75 than it was at 110/68.

I recently bought the 2020 Eco Diesel with around 7600 miles. I then drove the truck from South Florida to Sevierville Tennessee. I averaged 29.4 mpg on my way there. On the way back I averaged 32.5. The next trip I took was 182 miles back roads and some highway plus through Orlando and had an average of 36.5 mpg. I switched from a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi and man this mpg has impressed me so far.

Just got back from a long trip, with 3 adults and 2 kids and a very packed truck bed plus platform with additional weight on a fishing trip from Kentucky to Wisconsin, and per the computer:
1864.4 miles, 24.1 mpg, 30:14:43 time.

When possible, I was doing 85 mph on the highway. Limited in town driving on this trip, but several interstate back ups. Headwind both ways it seemed. I'm not patient on the highway. 10 mph faster over 12 hours is worth it.
What tires are you all running?

Limited 4x4 with 3.92 and Falken Wildpeak A/T 285 60 20.
Get 28 mpg on highway under 70 mph. About 25 mpg at 80+ mph.
22 mpg in town.

Nearly 12000 miles since March 17th, 2021 Big Horn 3.21 and I'm averaging 27.6. Last fuel up was 28.7. Right now diesel is less than gas at most stations near me so I'm really enjoying this mileage.

24 MPG. City and Rural driving mostly. Nothing more than 50 MPH in general. That is with a topper, 275/65/20's and hauling 1200 lbs in the bed most days for at least 8 miles.
When I do get out on the open road around 65 MPH, I am getting 28 MPG. Overall, I am getting about 4 MPG better than my 2014 EcoD.

If I go with the 3.21 I understand the mpg will improve but I’m not sure how it would effect my towing a 4000 LB trailer
Should not be an issue, I have the 3.21 and tow a 3500 lb trailer consistently. No issues. I commute 75 miles one way all highway and average 28 mph doing 75 mph and close to 30 if I drive state highways at 60. Winter time I average around 24-25 mpg using winterize fuel and putting 280lbs of sand in the back (I am still old school and like my weight in the back for winter driving). For trailering it varies on the type, open trailer loaded to 3500lb I can get 14-16, closed trailer loaded with furniture I managed 18 mpg. I do like that the blind spot sensor adapts to the length of the trailer,. I have a 2020 4x4 crew cab with the 6'4" bed, Laramie, air suspension, LSD. I do like this 3rd gen diesel had the 2 gen in a 2016 and this one feels a little better though it does seem to use more DEF than the old one. I have driven a 2500 with 6.4 hemi and 8' bed and there you do have some power to spare, it would likely pull a house off the foundations but be ready to carry spare fuel tanks in the bed as it was a pig on gas.

What is your tire pressure? I think mine is low and creates a higher rolling resistance.

I just drove an 800-mile round trip in my 21 Eco-diesel towing a 3,500-lb boat. It is RWD and has the 3.92 rear axel. Each time I topped-off I calculated MPG and got 13.6-mpg on a typical segment. The average MPG calculated by the truck was 14.5-mph for the same segment. I discovered that while towing, setting the cruise control at 69-mph kept the truck mostly in 8th gear while setting it a 71-mph kept it mostly in 7th gear; the lower speed saving a substantial amount of fuel. The route was the southeastern US, mostly flat roads. 75%/25% interstate vs highway.

Wanted to report on my first truck road trip. We were hauling two motorcycles, 670 + 500 pounds + a back seat full of camping gear, a 50 pound cooler and two adults weighting 400 pounds so we were up against max payload on the Limited EcoDiesel. We did 2200 miles in 4 days:

20 MPG average @ max payload. Pretty good.

This was Cruise Control at 73 MPG most of the way from New Hampshire to Asheville so no shortage of steep inclines and a lot of 70MPH roads. I was getting about 650 miles to the tank on the 33 gallon.

Nice! Good to see the truck did well. That’s quite the load!! I saw pictures in another post. Might be just a tad over the max payload lol. I have a trip coming in less than 2 weeks! Can’t wait.

Any driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway on your trip?

On my 2020 Limited 4x4 I traded in worst I ever got with copious remote starts in winter, blended fuel, and mixed driving was 20. 21-24 average in winter driving in Iowa. 26-28 in summer. 50 mile round trip commute to work everyday. When it hit around 27K miles it apparently was starting to break in because mileage went up to 29-30 consistently. 3.21 gears on that one. I went with 3.92 on new one on order because I wanted the higher tow capacity for future camper and in my mixed commute driving up and down a few decent hills the transmission was constantly downshifting with cruise set sometimes down into 5th. Test drive I did on a truck in Wisconsin in similar conditions never dropped lower than 7th and indicated 31MPG on the 25 mile round trip. 🤞🤞

Anyone else noticing a drastic decline in MPG with the winter blend of diesel? During the summer I would get nearly 30 MPG highway and I'm now getting 23 MPG highway. I have no way of knowing if my local fuel station is selling me "winter blend" but I'm assuming they are since it's a Marathon truck stop. I was thinking of putting some fuel in a jar and doing a cloud point test in my deep freezer.
Yes I did. Remote starts didn't help either. Never went below 20 though in mixed driving.

I'll second that motion on DEF consumption. About 30% higher than my 2017 and 2018 did. But average MPG increase of 2-4 better more than makes up for it. Helps that I get DEF at cost.

As I put more mileage on the truck and every time I tow I get better mileage. I just did a trip where my '15 was getting in the 12's and my 20 started out at 13.8 and then 14.5 and this trip 15.0. Absolutely getting 2-4mpg better than my '15 and maybe more.
