Low SAPS oil is what we need, right? An AMSOIL rep told me today that typically these Euro oils are full SAPS so we should be careful of what we're using. He was surprised that FCA switched to a spec that's normally used on small gasoline cars.

For my Canadian friends, I just happened to look at the Motomaster 5W-40 and it meets MS12991 spec. The price on sale can't be beat either! Said it's formulated by Shell so I assume it's just rebranded.

There is a mistake in the list. The Motul X-clean is not compliant, but the X-cess is. Having said that, I still went with the X-clean because it has lower SAPS.

I bought MOTUL X-cessgen2 for my 2021 Gen 3 Eco Diesel. Good/bad anyone else using it? I used Pennzoil in the first oil change and getting ready to do the second one.

I'm about to get oil analysis done on this oil after 7,000 miles of heavy towing. We'll see if it's all it's cracked up to be.

If it is not MS-12991 wont it void your Gen 3 ecodiesel warranty? I've heard that the Motul X-Clean 5W-40 is a better oil, but the Technical Datasheet from the Motul website doesn't show it as meeting the MS-12991 standard. The 8100 Motul X-Cess gen2 does. I'd prefer to go with the X-clean for the same reason you do, but not if it is going to potentially void my warranty.

How did your oil analysis go?

I posted the virgin analysis but I'm still working on a full cycle with heavy use before I can do a used oil analysis.

I will have a used oil analysis on the Motul X-cess 5W40 soon.

"We recommend you use 5W-40 synthetic engine oil such as Mopar  that
meets the manufacturer Material Standard MS-12991 and the API SN engine
oil category is required"

NICE< It's great to see that this meets the spec. I have a LOT of this in my basement. I bought 4 cases of it last year on sale for my Volkswagen nice to see it meets spec. that's a sigh of relief.

Nice list of oils that meet the crazy spec!
Crazy thing is Shell, who makes T6 (doesn’t meet spec) owns both Penzoil and Quaker State!

I was told the Motul 8100 X-clean 5W-40 meets the MS12991 Standard. Here's a copy of the Tech Sheet.

I changed my oil early on the first cycle, then slowly started ramping up distance between changes. The Motul X-cess 5W40 did not look good to me. Iron and aluminum were high, moly (anti-wear) was low, and viscosity was low at the end of a 7,300 mile run. I towed a trailer a few times during that cycle, otherwise it was 50/50 city/highway commuting.

I'm not impressed with the Motul at all.

The Quaker State has a much more robust additive package, and I am now running it for testing. We'll soon see what analysis looks like on that oil for 1/3rd the price. Should be interesting....
