2020 Eco Diesel MPG Problems

I recently bought a 2020 Eco Diesel and I was very impressed with MPG. After I used it to tow my RV from Tx to Ca I noticed I haven’t been able to get nearly the same MPG I was getting back in Tx. I’m currently sitting below EPA fuel rating. Has anybody have similar issues with their new Eco Diesel??? Dealership is telling me nothing is wrong with my truck.

There are so many things that affect your mileage it's difficult to tell. Over the past almost 6 years of driving the EcoD whenever I thought the mileage looked weird I would just reset the trip meter and take a ride on a route that I know always did 27mpg....and every time I did that I got the expected EVIC mileage.

19.5 I can barely get it up to 20 and I’m mostly always in hwy where there’s some small hills

Is that your average mileage? Reset the trip before your next ride and see what you're getting. It takes good tank or three to bring your average up from the 12 or 13 you were getting when towing.

I just think it’s weird how after using it to tow my MPG took a dramatic decrease.

I’ll try that today! just got it back from the dealership and didn’t notice anything different. I’ve only filled it up once after towing since I got the 33 gallon tank. Thanks @bill-e

I tow 7k+ and have not had an issue so it's not systemic. Are you hand calculating the mpg or going off the EVIC?

I am going off the EVIC. I’ve only towed my RV 7800lbs once and been driving daily for 2 weeks now. I’m afraid something is wrong after towing 1600miles because I can’t get over 20mpg.

EPA numbers are off a 3.21. do you have the 3.92 rear? makes a 20-30% difference when not towing at highway speeds.

Yea, I think if you reset your trip you'll see that you're OK. Look at my mpg in this link, scroll down a little until you see a graph that looks like a sine wave. Depending on when you fill up after a tow the mileage would be lower. The trip meter should give you a good idea on how you're doing.

Not a 30% difference with 3.92. My limited can do 30-33mph highway around 72mph with 3.92

I’m going off the 3.92 4x4 EPA numbers and I use to get about 28mpg in hwy. I figured everything would go back to normal after I was done towing but after 2 weeks it has been real low.

I’ll try the trip later see if it makes a difference because I’m going off my current/average MPG on EVIC and it’s giving me real low MPG.

Yeah when towing I get about 11 MPG and the best without is 28 but I haven’t been able to get it past 20 ever since using it to tow.

32k miles on mine, did same trip as you, ca>tx>ca and averaged 19 mpg going there and I averaged 85mph. I have the 3.92 gears so I get crap mileage past 65mph. Towing my boat I get 11 or 12 mpg. Try resetting the trip meter, also Texas is extremely flat so its easy to get good mpg there, hills in SoCal will reduce mpg. On normal days I average 21-23mpg but I'm usually going 70-85 on freeways.

Both 3.21 and 3.92 are rated 21 city 29 hwy 24 combined. but the 3.21 turns 20-25% less rpms at highway speed. it makes a difference.

I literally own a 3.92 and am telling you what I get for mileage. It makes a difference. But not that much. Above 75-80mph sure but I don't drive that fast

Well you said you went from TX to CA. So you went from one country to another. Totally apples to oranges. The fuel is likely different, weather is different, etc. It's no surprise your MPGs changed.

For the record, 20-21 MPG is the norm for these trucks. The guys getting 27-30 are outliers. A huge majority will see less than window sticker combined rating. Check out fuelly.com for more examples. There are over 328,000 combined miles logged on there now and the average has edged up toward 22 MPG. It had been around 21 as of last month.

Is it still in Tow mode? On mine anyway (after I accidentally turned it on) it does not reset to normal mode after a shutdown/restart.
