I would stick with the mopar 8-9 speed fluid. Tranny replacement is not cheap if it lets go. Guy at work had one replaced not too long ago, 5 to 6k IIRC.Hi Ram truck owners!!
I can’t afford the MOPAR transmission fluid and oil pan, can anybody recommend a reliable aftermarket oil transmission fluid kit
Yeah I know the debate on the fluids. I won't rehash that now. As far as the pan, I believe it should be the same. I've replaced the pan/filter on a BMW with a ZF 8HP transmission before and will make sure to match the old and new before proceeding.Better off sticking with the ZF lifeguard or Mopar 8/9 Spd fluid (amazon or ebay) You won’t get all the existing fluid out with a pan/filter swap and last thing you wanna do is mix a fluid that isn’t compatible w/ the factory fluid. ZF/Mopar fluid has that green tint to it.
Edit: better make sure that pan/filter is correct for our platform.
I have heard some pans are deeper. The BMW part I purchased measures exactly the same as the pan on my Ram 1500 RWD.The pans for the Rams are deeper, the BMW pans are flat on the bottom.

Hmmm, so what is the issue with trying to purchase parts at a good price in order to save a few dollars? If you can afford the truck you can afford the maintenance.
Not a thing. But that was not the statement. The statement was, 'I can't afford". How ever much it costs is how much it costs.Hmmm, so what is the issue with trying to purchase parts at a good price in order to save a few dollars?
I thought about doing this and might have if the allen key in the socket hole didn't workWhat I did when it came to the drain plug was grabbed an old 3/8 10mm hex socket and cut (grinder) the socket portion off. Leaving just the hex.. then using a wrench to loosen it.
Just to confirm, you used the BMW part # 68386779AA as you mentioned above? Does it come with the appropriate gaskets/orings?So I completed the fluid change this weekend. The procedure at Blauparts.com is pretty spot on. One item to note. When removing the 10mm pan drain plug, there is very little clearance between the drain plug and the exhaust crossover. To the point where a hex bit socket likely won't fit, or you won't be able to get a ratchet on the socket. The video shows using a wrench on a screwdriver hex bit. Most screwdriver hex bit sets don't include a 10mm bit. I had some shallow hex socket bits, but had to use an allen key in the socket lock pin hole as a lever to turn the socket. I probably could have used a pair of vise grips on the socket as well since the torque spec is something like 5-6 ft-lbs. If you jack up the back of the transmission prior to draining that might give some added clearance to use a ratchet on a hex socket bit.
When refilling, make sure the vehicle is running for your final level check. If not, you will likely underfill. I removed the fill plug while the truck was at the correct temp and had fluid flowing out. A moment later, I did start the truck and was able to add another quart or so. I ended up adding approximately 5.5-6 quarts in my drain and fill.
Liqui Moly ATF 1800 is OK and works fine in the ZF 8HP75 transmission. I used that fluid and it shifts great and used a dorman pan as you buy into their system that you can change the filter layer and not the whole pan. From doing service on two 8HP75 transmissions so far, changing the fluid earlier than 60k miles but if you tow a lot 30k is fine.Hi Ram truck owners!!

I used the part from the link BMW Auto Trans Oil Pan (With Filter) 24118612901 - ZF 1087298247. The link shows the BMW part to be 24118612901, but I can't say I checked the part number before installing. I did physically compare the original ZF cover/filter with the part I purchased, and they looked identical. Both are ZF parts, look the same, have the same magnet plates, have the same preinstalled gasket/o ring.Just to confirm, you used the BMW part # 68386779AA as you mentioned above?
