2019 Laramie leather seat cracking and peeling issue

I just sold a lexus rx fully loaded with leather. That car had 194000 on it with no rips in the leather. I didn't even do any treatments to the leather. There should be no issues with leather especially if they are cared for... I have a pair of leather boots that i have had for 6 years and they look great with just some mink oil and basic care. I have seen leather couches that are 50 years old and look brand new with a little treatment. This shouldn't even be a conversation. These seats shouldn't have these issues at all.

My 2002 Ram Laramie Leather Seats also have color peeling. I reported to the dealer 11/5/2024 at 18,057 miles.

This is a Laramie Sport Hemi with MSRP of $61,870.

I've never had a concern with leather seating on any of my new vehicles.... especially under the warranty period.
.... This was my first experience with Ram. My previous F-150 Lariat Sport had leather interior, same driver. same conditions, same age, and zero problems with the leather. Even my wife's 2021 Explorer with 28,000 miles has absolutely leather discoloring or peeling of color. This must be a defect in materials on Ram leather because no other manufactures I've owned had early color delamination on seats.

My dealership proposed a warranty seat cover replacement. They took photos and sent to RAM who rejected the repair, or any responsibility.

Rams "official Company response" was is was caused by AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE??? What! is that?

They said is not a manufacturing issue [please be advised that cuts, tears, punctures, stains, cloth fuzzing, wear winkles, or scrapes are not considered a "Defect in material or workmanship" and are not FCA responsibility]

Ram response is infuriating. There's no outside influence other than regular driving after 18,000 miles. This is a not a work truck. Its only driven by me exclusively, and nothing more than normal vehicle operation or usage.

I expected much more from my RAM, and the Warranty representatives. I totally understand leather can wrinkle. But color delamination/peeling after 18,000 miles is completely unacceptable. 18,000 miles!

Please see my pictures.

Thank You

Depends on the manufacturer, but that does look like your typical wear of slipping in and out of the seat wearing jeans. Not saying that's the case, but that's what I would think looking at those pictures. They usually only cover stuff that looks like a failure of materials or stitching. My BMW dealer wouldn't warranty that, though maybe my Toyota dealer would.

Stellantis from what I've seen will wiggle out of anything, out of all the manufacturers I've owned and tried to warranty, they would be last on my list of likely to cover this. Luckily for you, if you don't get them to cover this, almost any upholstery shop can fix that for relatively cheap. Likely a simple dye job, will look like new when they are done.

I appreciate your response but the issue is poor quality. It's completely unacceptable. Can you explain why this never happened on my 2020 F-150 with leather seats? or any other new vehicles I've ever owned with only 18,000 miles? Am I not supposed to wear jeans>?

I don't disagree on being a quality issue, but I've seen this on a few vehicles and it's 50/50 if your dealership is going to fix it from what I've seen. Some will say it's normal wear, I had that at 10K on one of my Bimmers and they told me to hit the bricks. Some will probably gladly fix it.

I will say as historically a Ford guy, they do focus on leather wear and tear, testing with dirty jeans on leather seats. Don't think RAM does that. But if you have to bite the bullet yourself, it's relatively easy and cheap fix.

Lift yourself in and out and stop sliding across the seat when you’re getting in and out that helps…use the grab handle . It sucks but looks like typical leather wear.
