I’ve had my 2018 Ram in to the dealership 5 times in the last couple months for air suspension problems. Is there a fix for this or are they just waiting for the weather to warm up?

The only fix is replacing the air bags with coil suspension. Otherwise they will keep replacing parts every winter.

Please confirm whether you are talking about a 2018 RAM or a 2019 RAM? If its an 2018, I'll move this thread to another sections (4th Gen) so that there isn't confusion, as the 2018 and 2019 (5th Gen, not Classic) systems are stated to be different.

In weather-13 Celsius and colder the compressor will stop working. The suspension will go all the way down and it makes the truck undriveable because it bottoms out with each bump. The reason I say -13 and colder is because that is the warmest it happened to my truck.

Hi JoeRam,

If you end up getting this looked into by your Ram dealer, let us know. We're available via private message and can always escalate to a case specialist if additional assistance is needed.

Ugh..my lease is coming due on my '16 2500 Cummins (yes it's leased) and I was thinking of going back to a half ton with the air suspension. Now I'm concerned since I'm in Minnesota and when in the northern part of the state at our cabin it can easily be -30F in the depth of winter...heck even here in Minneapolis area it was that a couple times this winter. I'm really second guessing if I should go the air suspension route now.

I have yet to see if this thread applies to the 5th Gen air suspension, so ease back your preconceptions on the revised air suspension.
I know my comments are not preconceptions of the 5th Gen Revised Suspension. I will say the system, when working fine which 99% are, the revisions are truly exceptional. But if you happen to have an issue as mine or a few others, well lets just leave it as it needs help. Now I will ad when I first replied to the OP's post, I did not catch that he was dealing with a pre 5th Gen as now a few others have chimed in as well.

It also hasn't been established if the 4th Gen problems were addressed with the redesigned 5th Gen air ride. It will take another winter or two before the 5th Gen trucks start to show symptoms.

I personally having been through it, wouldn't touch an air ride equiped truck with a ten foot stick if I was in a subzero weather location. Just not worth the risk on a $60k+ truck.

When I was shopping around for my 2019 RAM, I had specifically looked into the air suspension as I had annual issues every winter with my '13 RAM's air suspension. I had one dealership that refused to even order in vehicles with air suspension due to the problems, and another dealership said they already had to replace compressors in a few '19 RAMs with air suspension. I just decided I didn't want to go through the hassle of being without my truck for weeks on end every winter when one of my jobs is snow removal.

That said, for the most part, with my '13 RAM FCA stepped up to the plate and even once the warranty ended, covered the air suspension repairs. This past year they decided to only cover half of them and that was the push I needed to get rid of the problemed truck. They replaced every part of the suspension at least 3 or 4 times over the years and the only real solution was to remove the air suspension and go back to coils.

I just have a problem with this whole complaint. Yes. I do find very isolated Forum complaints. I do not find any consistent issue. I guess I will find out.

I think it's a good thing that humans learn from past failures and keep trying to improve on previous efforts. If they just gave up when things didn't work out the way they had hoped, we sure wouldn't have made much progress.
